Is the Linking Rubber Band Trick something you need a gimmick for. Or is it something you can just make?

It depends on which version you use. There are countless impromptu versions in which you just use two ordinary bands, and a few gimmicked versions, including my pending release, "Linked 4 Life" that use permanently linked bands, which you can easily make yourself with a little practice.

Prescott,
Were you looking for the bands to link or unlink? I personally enjoy doing the unlinking rubber bands as performed by Copperfield. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Chris Kenner and Michael Weber both have great write ups on the linking rubberband routine. Personally I think that the "Missing Link" routine that these gentlemen teach in their respective books is one of the strongest close up routines around. Kenner says that this routine was one of his greatest.

Rennie,
That is NOT bands unlinking. It's bands penetrating. It's a common misnomer, but they're too entirely different things. Linking or unlinking implies that the unbroken loops of the bands are connected in a physically impossible state; penetrating involves both strands of one band penetrating through another. A link is the penetration of one strand of one band through one strand of the other. The effect you refer to is Arthur Setterington's "Penetrating Bands", popularized initially by Herb Zarrow, and dubbed by Michael Ammar (thanks to Daryl) as "The Crazy Man's Handcuffs". --A

Chris Kenner's Missing Link is good, just that the set-up requires quite a lot of practice in order to make the effect work well.

Andy,
I stand corrected you are right it would be a penetration. Oh well I like it anyway. Thanks, Rennie
