I just ordered this item from Magic Pro Shop. Any thoughts on the power of this thing?

I'm not sure what you mean by strength. Do you mean from a performance point of view?
Or the actual !~@#$%^& strength. If you know how it works then you will know what I meant by !~@#$%^&. In terms of !~@#$%^& it's very powerful, surprisingly so. I got mine from the same dealer as you a couple of weeks ago. I haven't really tried it on anyone yet as I'm still getting a feel for it. If you give it the time it deserves you can do some really great stuff with it. I must stress don't rush out and show your and start performing for friends until you've practiced enough. It is so easy to get the performance wrong and tip the method. Much like a pendulum effect when working with IT. If it doesn't look natural it's pretty easy to guess the method. |

I have this item and I still haven’t really used it to show anyone. I don't know why. I need to go ahead and use it. There aren’t that many REALLY GOOD tricks that can be done with it as all of them employ the movement of an object as the only thing.

It is very powerful. But, think outside the box with this one. The typical tricks that you see being done with it are the tip of the iceberg. But be careful with it - don't use it on people with pacemakers (seriously) and the whole stopping a watch thing can seriously damage someone's watch (stay away from the rolex's).

So basically which type you guys will recommend "The Raven" or "Micro Pk 5"?
Hope someone can differentiate that for us... Symmatrix

The Raven and the Pro PK are different. They are designed to do different things. The Raven is designed for visual vanishes. Pro Pk is designed for PK effects. Honestly, its like saying is it better to get a flipper coin or an expanded shell. just my opinion.

Thanks guys. I'm wondering how this set differs from the new set that's being released, the set that includes the card case that houses the gimmick. Is it the same gimmick? You can check it out over at Hank Lees Hot list

How can stopping a watch damage it? All your doing is stopping the inside from rotating on the anolog watches. I don't think it should hurt the watch at all.

It does have the potential to damage watches because the innards work too hard and it busts. It's like revving a car in neutral past the red line.

It WILL destroy the battery if done too long as well. Not such a big deal in and of itself, but the battery is connected to other parts of the watch and they can be destroyed too. Only do the effect if you want your spectator to kill you.

It is too big in my opinion to make it practical.

Instead of using one 0.5inch thick magnet, I suggest use two 0.25inch thick magnets (of the same 'N' grading - N50 and above). Hence you will have so much more to play around and experiment. Thus you will be able to vary the magnetic strength as well as use a magnet on each leg with different polarity facing up (i.e. say, left leg with N-Pole & right leg with S-Pole). With this so much more can be achieved.

I used a little pocket on the bottom of my table top to hold the Micro 5. I still didn't ever perform with it though.

If a watch is an analog mechanical version it will cause damage. It can be repaired but not cheaply. An analog battery watch will not be damaged for the short time that this effect will take. How do I know. I used to be a jeweler.

Techneeqs,
I've posted on several threads in the past about the effects of magnetism and watches. I'll spare you my usual long-winded version and just say that it is very irresponsible to subject someone's watch to a magnet. Some watches may not be damaged but the chances that a guy doing a trick for some stranger knows exactly what movement is inside different watches is remote. Some quartz watches (the ones Mr. Frank refers to as analog battery) are not all safe so don't make that assumption. What if someone has an Accutron? Do you know how hard it is to get parts for an Accutron? They run on a battery but have a tuning fork in them. The cheaper the watch the less likely it can be damaged because it usually has more plastic parts, but like anything else that's not a 100% rule so better to be safe than sorry. Quartz watches have their own magnet in them (the rotor) so the chances of you doing damage is less likely but anyone that tells you that you can't damage them doesn't know that for sure, they are just playing the odds, get them to accept responsibility and if you ever damage one you can send them the bill! As far as mechanical watches go, the ones that have a balance wheel and make that ticking noise, you will almost certainly do damage. It may not be enough to keep it from running but it may not keep correct time. What is happening are some very delicate parts become magnetized, particularly the hairspring which can be thought of as the "brains" of the watch, it's what regulates how fast the watch runs. Best case it will not keep good time, worst it will not run. I know people don't mean to do anything harmful and they may not even cause any damage to someone's watch but all it takes is one time and all of a sudden a $20 hunk of junk becomes a priceless heirloom that was blessed by the Pope that can never be replaced. Magic is just fun for me, but Watches is something I know very well. There are a million cool tricks you can do with your new toy Mr. VernonOnCoins, wrecking someone's watch is not one of them. Respectfully, Phil |
