That's pretty amazing. I see they're calling them rooks. Is that the same as the Common Raven here in the USA? They sure look similar.

No, they're related but different.
I had to look it up to see any differences. Try this: http://wildpetbirds.com/Corvidae.html I found this description on http://www.avianweb.com : "Rooks are distinguished from similar members of the crow family by the bare grey-white skin around the base of the adult's bill in front of the eyes. The feathering around the legs also look shaggier and laxer than the congeneric Carrion Crow. The juvenile is superficially more similar to the Crow because it lacks the bare patch at the base of the bill, but it loses the facial feathers after about six months."

If you can find the recent BBC nature documentary about ravens and their family, by all means do so! They're utterly fascinating creatures!
but it's not THIS one! LOL

A similar vid with monkeys was out earlier this year, where they used water to raise up peanuts in a tube. Supposedly with monkeys that had never seen the trick done.

How about this line: "The birds were extremely accurate, using the exact number of stones needed to raise the worm to a height where they could reach it." WOW!

I've heard that the bird is the word.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

Yeah, I had a laugh at that line too. Why would anyone be surprised that they didn't continue throwing stones in after the objective had been reached?

Well, I suppose they could have started by throwing in three or four stones at a time until they achieved a noticeable difference in the height of the water. That's what I would do.

I love the card game that's named after them!
I do not know how the Raven, Rook, Crow, etc. rank, but I have always marveled at the crows intellegence!
