Did the whole vegas bit the weekend, and I saw P&T, second row. Great show, awesome. During one of the bits, the spot light on Penn had his shadow upside down on the curtain behind him (his head was where his feet should have been). I have no knowledge of stage lighting... Does anyone have an idea why that happened? Mirrors?

Why? To be humorous probably. How? I could think of a number of ways. Cut out sillouette backlit perhaps.

Why would they want a cut out sillouette backlit? And what is a gobo?

A gobo is a cut-out you put in a slot in the front of a lighting instrument to achieve different effects. Kind of like putting your hands in front of a candle to project an animal shadow.
You might use a backlit sillouette if there's a screen behind the performer. Re-reading, I see it was a curtain so gobo sounds like best bet.
