Then there were the ads in the back of comics for sea monkeys and xray glasses. Those ads are still fun to read, even today. Too bad what they showed was NOT what you got, just like in some magic catalogues of yore.
Of course, the Charles Atlas stuff did work if you followed it religiously, or so I've heard!
