Hello everyone,
just wondering if anyone has a review for Jay Sankey's Juicer Fruit. I would love to hear a review! Cheers Francis McAllister |

It was JUST released so I doubt there will be one so soon.

Looks interesting but I think it it TOO impossible. Meaning that a spectator is going to be smart enough that you can NOT do this with any Juicy Fruit wrapper and the whole thing of their card being folded and wrapped in the gum wrapper seems to point towards the idea of preparation too. Very cool idea, but just suffers from the impossibility factor. IMO of course

For years, I haven't seen Juicy Fruit, or any gum for that matter, in individual wrappers like in the video. They are always just in tin foil.

The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

Maybe as magicians we suffer from this 'too perfect theory' syndrome. However, from a layman's point of view it seems amazing and visual. I find Sankey's stuff often have the layman 'wow' factor, but often doesn't get the purist magician's vote...

I have vastly different opinions on that effect, depending on how I as a magician or spectator would see it. But, this Sankey product, particularly the card being placed in the box, just appears obvious. "Too perfect" CAN be pulled off...a folding coin in bottle always makes my jaw drop if performed well. I guess I just think "Juicier Fruit" is just not that strong. Just my opinion. Will look forward to real world reviews. |

Would that spectator really, honestly believe that that stick of gum is not prepared or made in a special way? Would they really believe that you could've done it with any card and any piece of gum? It's hard to accept sometimes, but the answer is no. Another thing to keep in mind. A lot of times magicians judge an effect by the reaction they get immediately after they perform it. IMO that is the wrong way to judge an effect. The spectator has what I call a "shock reaction" where the effect has just transpired and they are shocked by the outcome and their intellect has not really kicked in yet. Then after a few minutes they start silently going through methods in their head and if an effect is "too perfect" they get led right to the method. They may be shocked and gasp when you reveal that the label has changed to the name of their card, but it doesn't take long for them to figure out what's really going on. |

Keith Barry performed it with excellent reactions. Sure, one may argue that it's a TV show and the reactions may be fabricated. I think it's a wonderful little effect, and you may get a few spectators that call you out on this one. But that could happen with any effect you perform.
