A friend of mine described an effect where the magician vanishes a coin while it's in the spectator's hand. Does an effect like this exist?

Beats me, I'm not a magician. You might post this in one of the coin forums to get a more useful answer.

This post is exactly why I randomly search topics I normally don't go to.
Reminds me of the old joke... A woman call information (411) and asks the operator "How long do I cook a 16 pound turkey, and what temperature do I set my oven?" The operator thinks for a second and answers "20 minutes a pound at 325 degrees. But you know this number is for directory assistance. Why did you call here?" The woman replies, "Well, you knew, didn't you..." Great answer, Mary! And thanks for the link, Dave.
