Can a website be transferred to a different web host? To be more specific I already have one already put together, aceproductionsusa.com. It is with the web host "Internet Planners." The registrar (domain name) is with "namesecure.com". I want to transfer the already made website over to the web host "Blue Host." Can that be done? Or do I have have to start from scratch making a whole new website with "Blue Host"? Another problem is the website's time with "Internet Planners" is about to expire. The registrar time does not end until next year.

It depends on how the website has been created. I could be very easy.
Did you use a template or a special system that belongs to the origninal website? If you do, then it might be difficult, otherwise you should be able to dump the database, copy everything over, reload the data into the new database, and recreate the web site. Point the DNS entries to the new host and go. Don't forget to create any email addresses you might have created on the old site on the new site. Depending on the plan, you may be able to just cancel the remaining time on the old host, Check the terms of the agreement when you created your account in the first place. But I have to ask why? Are you unhappy with Internet Planners? If so, that's something that is good to know for others coming on the scene.

Bluehost uses a cPanel system. When I went from one host to another, I had another person help to migrate my site for me. He knew what he was doing, and I didn't. I'll bet there are several people here that know how to do that for you. You probably just need to ask to find one. When I went with Bluehost, I also transferred over my name registration. Before, like you, my hosting had been with one company and name with another. Now they are both under one roof. - Donald

Blue Host gives additional one free (I think I'm saying it right.) Another reason is as Donald describes being under one roof. And another is as Mike describes, better features. Com'on guys, I give up now, what is the trick? Why are you all willing to help a poor black man like me? Are there some special rules somewhere mentioning everyone must help a minority to stay on the Café? I want to thank all of you for your concern and support. |

Let me second the Wordpress recommendation.
Wordpress sites conform to the standards, which makes parsing the website easier and much more reliable. Even without any additional work they have decent SEO, putting a bit of effort can give you good results. Lots of plugins and themes to start with and then you can tweak them to get exactly what you want. Every web hosting company will host Wordpress, many will have one-click install for this.

Guys, what is a cpanel and what is Wordpress? Since my website is already transferred by Gene, is it any worth getting cpanel or Wordpress?

You have cpanel as part of your hosting...
its the control system where you can manage your email accounts and such within Cpanel there is Fantastico if you click it you will see a bunch of software you can install on your website forums customer support tickets shopping carts all kinds of things Wordpress is in that list and if you want an advantage in ranking you want wordpress and you want to blog here is a link to a 30 min video on blogging and why its helpful for business http://marketingmastergroup.com/10-week-boot-camp/ Wordpress EASILY lets you implement online marketing strategies..

I use BlueHost. Mike is right about Fantastico, but Bluehost has another product that does the same thing, but is a bit easier to use and gets updated versions of the scripts it install long before Fantastico does. It's called Simple Scripts. I would highly recommend using that rather than Fantastico.
Just sign into Bluehost. You'll come to the screen with all the options. It's in there, somewhere. There is a "Find" option in the upper left corner you can use. Just start to type SIMPLE (or FANTASTICO, if you want to go that way) and it will show you where it is. It's literally just a couple of clicks to get Wordpress up and running. I'd recommend installing it in a sub directory, like aceproductionsusa.com/blog. That way you can play with it, see what it can do and get it set up the way you want without affecting your "live" site. When (or if) you want to go live with the Wordpress version, you can install another copy of Wordpres in your root domain (aceproductionsusa.com) and copy the contens and settings from your test site. |
