Hey Docc,
I wonder if would mention your thoughts about heading a psychic church. Were you doing seance performances (ie. with effects) or legit seances, or do you consider there to be a difference? Would you consider yourself a skeptic, a true believer, somewhere in between or perhaps even something else completely? I hope you don't mind me bringing this up. As a fan of your work as well as Richard Webster's I find these questions coming up in my own head sometimes. Thanks -Courtney

I was just about to pose a question along these same lines. I am also interested in finding out more about the psychic church in Florida that you were involved with.
Also, since we are on the topic - I know you have the Phoenix, Arizona connection, and knew Dr. Richard Ireland, and that he had a big influence on you. Do you have any thoughts on Richard Ireland or stories that you wish to share?

Wow you guys are going for the deep stuff. but as I have no real secrets...
The Church was started in a little town in Florida, Ft. Pierce. It was the home of super medium, Arther Ford. I opened it in a very tough, depressed neighborhood. There were candle light services, mostly ritual, and some Bible study. Very soon I found myself packing boxes with food for single mother families. these homes had three or more generations of women and children living in tiny houses and needed assistance. Later, I devoted most of the time personal counciling (Rogerian) and to GED classes for the unwed fathers to be able to get jobs to support the families themselves. A far cry from what I had envisioned originally. When I lost my fiance', I didn't have the heart to continue. As far a Dr. Ireland goes... He instructed me in the real work of billet reading. I was his secret student. I had an incident at his funeral and it caused quite a stir. I was offered a position in the University of Life, but declined as others (best left unnamed) were more interested in taking over. Eventually there was some trouble, so I'm rather grateful I stuck with performance. Today I use a lot of his technique in audience management and raw showmanship in my Q&A act. I'm not a believer nor a skeptic. I'm a Traveler. At one time I lived on the back of a horse and herded cattle, but I was never really a cowboy. I lived on the reservation too, but I was never really a Native American. Both groups identified me as one of them, but I remained a Traveler. The same holds true with psychic and critical thinker groups. Most my atheist friends think I'm one of them. Most of the Buddhists I hang out with claim me as theirs as well. That's very nice of them. I like to experience as much of Earth culture as possible. I'm only here for about 100 years, so I'm just trying to fit in and not be a cad. |

Thanks Docc for the honest and meaningful answers. I like your philosophy and like to think that I subscribe to the same values and ideals. YOur unique and deep response shows me that you indeed walk the walk.

Erwin Polster, the famous Gestalt therapist, once wrote: "Everybodys life is worth a novel." Reading what you've done and accomplished, what you think and believe, I would say: "In the case of Docc Hilford, I could'nt agree more." I imagine that it would be a truly magical experience to read your life story. Will you write it...please?
Thanks for sharing, Klasu-Peter |
