Well as of tomorrow I will be the proud owner of my new mother of all book test, of course it will take a week to get to my house from Fresno. I've heard from many happy owners already on other threads;however, is there anyone who would like to chime in and let me know how their MOAB has held up in their performances?

How well MOABT, or any book used in a book test, will hold up depends on several factors; i.e., whether a hardcover or paperback book, how often it is used, how it is handled and the care it is given by the owner. Obviously a hardcover book will normally hold up better than a paperback with the same care and handling; however, given proper care and handling either will last a long time. Although I have both the hardcover and paperback editions of MOABT (in fact, 2 copies of each) I have only used any hardcover books in my performances once or twice in 20+ years. All of the books I use in my book test routine (and I use up to 10) are paperbacks. I've used the same paperback copy of MOABT in every one of my mindreading shows since it was published (I was one of the first purchasers) -- i.e., in an estimated 1,000 or more performances -- and it still shows little wear. It is hardly in "pristine" condition, but it is still a long way from being so worn as to warrant replacing it with the spare copy I'm holding in reserve.
BTW, whenever I find something that I know I will be using on a regular basis, I always buy a spare (assuming I can afford it) to hold in reserve for the day when the first one wears out as I have learned the hard way that when that happens whatever it is will no longer be available. With that in mind I keep backup copies of all of the paperback books I use in my book test routine.

Thanks for the info bud, I will take your advice. I am looking forward to getting my copy, its a hard cover and I am hoping is comes with the manuscript from the legendary New York 13, so the add reads.

You're going to love it. I grabbed one when they first came out, and have yet to find a better book test... and I do have most of them.

A MOAB Failure?
After all these years of using it and getting tremendous reponses, I fainally had a failure. I do the two person - two word routine( one person has MOAB2 the other an ungimmicked book) I couldn't see clearly in the dim light but I swear both volunteers were looking somewhere in about the middle of the books. Imagine my surprise when the word the MOAB book person picked was "Unabridged" At some point she decided to look at the copyright page of the book and used the word unabridged off that! Thankfully I stil got the word correct from the non-gimmicked book so the routine ended OK. It just proves if you say "Open the book to any page you like" you'll find someone that likes the copyright page! |

It's a great book test, but not a fan of it being $350...

Thanks for your honest inputs.
I've been considering MOABT recently and this helps make my decision easier. |
