Does anyone want to share their comments/criticism about my pet routines?

Hey, Mike, I've never seen Gen Ribbons to Dove done quite like that, but I like it. The way you gather the ribbons looks more natural than the traditional way of doing it.

Thank you, Dave. If it was not for you, I would not have known of General Grant's Ribbons to Dove. I always use it to start my shows. At times, I use no vest/dove pockets.

You have some nice shots there - great reactions form the kids and all. That is always nice to see. I think what I personally like the most is the fact that the outfits you wear are all unique, but yet all the same. Good look. Sets your theme just by looking at you. Good stuff.
Now, I wouldn't want to upset a magician who produces and wears large 'bling' around his neck either. *haha* Just kidding. Good stuff....really. If I see another magician wearing the same type clothes, I'll just call him "Dynabite"! LOL By the way - that balancing move with the rings is nice....where'd you learn that one from? I never got into the linking rings, but the rings you have look VERY nice....who is the maker of those? -Alpha Posted: Sep 26, 2009 7:16pm Oh, and I forgot to add that you are VERY brave to have your dove perched outdoors without worry of it taking flight because of a light breeze. It's a nice touch, however, to see that you are confident enough to know it's going nowhere. Ever had any issues with kids rushing your work area when you are finished and spooking the dove? -Alpha |

That super glue works wonders. Alpha is right. You are brave and show a lot of confidence that your dove will not take flight. Really enhances your performance and appearance.

I used to clip dove's wings at first. From what I learned from you guys on the Café, I do not believe in that anymore. I have had a few fly away outside before. It was usually due to a gust of swift air. Now, I only us my silky dove for the long term outside use.
Alpha, that is why I was talking to you one day about making me a perch surrounded by glass so the dove would stay in. At times, kids and adults have spooked my dove before. The adults spook her more when standing offside behind me, taking pictures of the kids. The Spinning Ring is by Joe Porper. The rings are 15 inch. Here is me doing my 8 ring routine without the Spinning Ring: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dynamikex#pl......8iI6cwh0 |

I think wing clipping is for beginners. First off, it doesn't really work to keep a bird put except on the floor. Secondly, it looks very poor. And since the bird will soon have to replace the damaged feathers anyway, it just speeds up the cycle of having to wait for new feathers and that takes the dove out of you show for a few weeks. You'll need plenty of spare doves, if you keep working.
A dove that can't fly but "flops around" on the floor doesn't endear audiences for you. It just takes attention away from your show. The only argument I can make for invisible harnesses is that they will hold a flighty bird down. Frankly, I recommend another bird! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Man, Mike, your shows look like a blast! I didn't have the audio on 'cause all in my house are asleep right now, but those are some of the best promo vids I've seen in awhile.
I agree with everyone on the animals. It's nice to see them decorate the stage like that. They all look like they couldn't care less what's going on, and they just keep minding their own business. I guess they've seen the show before! The cat really impressed me; mine wouldn't sit there for a second, and they'd be hissing their way out of the room!

I was fascinated that the cat and bunny were just co-existing so well side-by-side. I've wanted a cat, but been worried about it wanting to eat the bunnies. This gives me hope. Nice demo. The kid at the restaurant with the sponges was perfect. Great reactions.

My cat became friends with my birds too. She got used to the birds by seeing them everyday in the bird cage. Another help was probably because she was a kitten when I first got her.
I am learning the clippings need a lot of touch ups in the "Tricky Business" forum. I guess I am not as far as I thought in putting the promo together. |
