I previously posted some details here
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30 but it seems everyone is tired of that old thread and is avoiding it.
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

I considered looking there first but talked myself out of it. Good diagnosis, House.

Thanks for pointing out your previous post. I had missed it.
(It must have been one of those things where yo stay at the Café for a while, then go check an article or something, and then the red coffee mugs are re-set to white, and so you miss new posts. I hate when that happens.) Anyway, from the article Balducci linked to in the other thread: "In France, Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said he was “dumbfounded” by Polanski's arrest, adding that he “strongly regrets that a new ordeal is being inflicted on someone who has already experienced so many of them.” And later: "The Swiss Directors Association sharply criticized authorities for what it deemed 'not only a grotesque farce of justice, but also an immense cultural scandal.'" So, if you rape a 13 year-old, but are the child of Holocaust survivors, suffered the murder of your wife, have lived in exile in Europe (though you originally come from Europe--meaning you've had to suffer exile by living at home), have suffered negative publicity ever since the accusation, and are culturally important--you know, because you made some really good films in the 1960s--well, then I suppose it would indeed be a "grotesque farce of justice" to actually be so presumptuous as to think you still ought to account for your actions. As for the victim's opinion, I can hardly see how it's relevant. There is a positive side to all this: I suppose that if I do something culturally significant, then maybe I can move back to the States some day without having to fear prosecution.... Are banjo player magicians culturally significant? |

As a matter of fact banjo playing magicians are culturally significant.

Well then, maybe I should actually try performing magic some day.
