OK. I really don't know the answer to this, but I figure with the brain trust around here, somebody ought to know.
Which is better for saving fuel to get to your destination which is 60 miles away? A) Drive 60 miles an hour for one hour. or B) Drive 80 miles an hour for 45 minutes. |

Depends on the vehicle. Different engines and gearing are set up for different efficiencies.

OK.
So all things being equal. You use the same car for both. It is a 6 cylinder automatic with out any special modifications. Just a straight off the line North American sedan. |

There are many factors that influence fuel consumption.
If it is exactly the same road, same weight and all things being equal then for the most part driving at 60mph would be more fuel efficient. |

You should look at how many times the engine "turns" RPM and not at the travel time.
