Actually, he was asking if buying the videos set was like buying all the good effects from the books. The answer is no.

Another plus for the books is that since the videos have come out there have been
some revisions to a number of the tricks. Books are great, they make you think and work through sleights and routines instead of being a mimic. |

I have the books, and am thinking of getting these videos to help me along with some of the routine I do not understand in writing.
I looked over the list on whats in the video set, and a bunch of great effects are in there that I just cannot comprehend in the AoA series. This is just me... Evan |

I own both the books and the videos (The Art of astonishment VIDEO/Books and Stars of magic). My opinion is that you get them all. The videos are a great compliment to the books. In this way you can see the effects--which helps, if you find the text confusing. Paul Harris effects are absolutely amazing. I tend to wonder what spell Dai Vernon casts on everyone he meets and teaches. Just think for a moment how great performers like Paul Harris, Michael Ammar, Bruce Cervon, John Carney are. All including Alex Elmsley had something to do with Dai Vernon at sometime or another. All hail the Professor. I wish I could have met him.

Your best bet would be to buy it from penguinmagic.com or something, and have it shipped to the U.k
get the books, its so much harder to learn from but in the end you have the great feeling of actually learning from a book. |

I have all three volumes of the AoA book series and one video (the first) from the Stars of Magic w/ Paul Harris...Getting a visual on some of the tricks really helps but the book explains each trick in great detail PLUS you get a whooooole lot more of bang for your bucks! Books all the way...this is coming from someone who doesn't really enjoy reading

The PH videos are among the favorites in my library. Vol.3 is my favorite (the one with Twilight).
Remember, John Carney has put out many videos and dvds himself. Why limit yourself to only print or only to videos/dvds? You can combine all of these resourses (assuming they fit within your budget) to learn. It's funny that the people who like to dis videos can easily refer to a few of them and make comments about them. Get whatever works best for you. Jeremy |

How much you want to bet Paul Harris has books AND videos of his favorite magicians.
In loving memory of Hughie Thomasson 1952-2007.
You brought something beautiful to this world, you touched my heart, my soul and my life. You will be greatly missed. Until we meet again “my old friend”. |

The Art of astonishment video was horrible. Itw as the first I'd heard of him and it took me a long while to try something else.
His Stars Of Magic videos are brilliant.
