Many years ago I saw a television interview with an actor who always seems to play biker or tough guy parts in movies. His name escapes me, but I know you have seen him if you're older than thirty. For years, he always had a major role in almost every biker flick that was made, along with roles in other major pictures such as Billy Jack. He was in demand because of "the look" he had, but he refused to accept any role that involved cursing, sex scenes, or anything else that would compromise his Christian witness.
This just goes to show that you can succeed wildly and still maintain your character and witness. Amos McCormick

I agree with the thoughts on this thread.
Great discussion. It has always puzzled me that so many doing "Gospel magic" would do so with such unprofessional style. It says in the Bible that we should seek to glorify God in EVERYTHING that we do. Also, I really like what Kevin said about picking one message and hitting that home. Right on the money!

In my new show, "Laundry Day for Jesus", I use 1 verse and 3 talking points. Every trick/song/routine touches on one of those 3 points, as well as build upon each other. |

Wes...
Yes that is very possible. Just remember to do one thing first...build rapport with your audience, if you don't do that, WHY should they listen to you. Build rapport and you will have them on the edge of their seats WAITING to hear what you have to say. Earn their respect then drive your points home. Kevin

Yes, you need to build a rapport with your audience, and while we're at it, let's mention other obvious items such as being proficient with your talent, costuming, routining and the all important stage craft.
Let me put it this way, presenting a secular show with a Gospel message at the end is much the same as a commercial on television/radio. It might be an entertaining commercial, but people will tend to forget the message and remember the entertainment. It is my job to craft an entertaining show in such a way that they remember both the message and the entertainment. This is my opinion and I'm OK if your opinion is different. |
