For those of you who have never checked out any of Scott's work, I have to tell you that you are missing out on some great magic. His effects are practical, well routined and ready to add to any working professional magician's repertoire. This one is no exception. I use "Bill to Orange" as the closer in my stage set and it absolutely kills! It leaves the audience applauding, buzzing after the show and I have definitely gotten gigs from that one effect. In my opinion, it is one of the strongest stage effects in magic. In this E-Book, "The Working Pro's Bill in Lemon", Scott echoes that sentiment. According to Scott, he has used it as his closer for nearly twenty years and even refers to it as "The PERFECT Closer". Here's an excerpt from this E-Book that explains why he feels that way:
"The bill in lemon is a classic of magic--and with good reason! Think about it: you borrow a bill from someone, utterly destroy it, only to have it appear totally restored inside a normal, pristine lemon! THAT’S magic!" Scott spends the first several pages dissecting and comparing the various versions of this type of routine. He shows you through the eyes of your potential audience how and why his "Bill in Lemon" routine has evolved into the version he uses and shares with you. I have to say that I agree with his points, my version already has incorporated the important aspects that Scott discusses. The thing I loved most about this is that my presentation as it stands today is very strong and gets great audience reactions. The changes I'm going to incorporate based on Scott's presentation are going to make it even better! I'm performing on stage for two nights coming up in November, and I WILL be incorporating those changes. I'm excited to see the reaction. I believe it will make my routine cleaner, tighten it up a bit and bring the entire audience into the reveal which is always a good thing. Bottom line, its 24 pages that greatly details Scott's routine, covers every nuance, every joke and all the psychology behind the effect. That's one of the things I like about Scott's work, he, like myself, believes that the performance and psychology of magic are key elements in being a true magician. If you presently perform a "Bill in (fill in the fruit)", have ever thought about it, or are looking for a strong effect to close your stage act with then check this one out: http://www.scottfguinn.com/generalmagic.asp It's about halfway down the page; I know you won't be disappointed. Good job Scott, thanks for this one... Hank |

Hank, I appreciate your detailed review and your kind words. This is probably the single strongest effect I do, and I have held nothing back on it in this e-book.

I saw Scott conclude a show for several hundred with this effect, and it killed. He got plenty of laughs, and something that isn't mentioned in the write-up is that by having several people play different roles (holding the lemon, the knife, writing the serial number) in separate parts of the audience, he moved the effect from the stage and into the audience, in a way that involved the entire audience.
Interacting with several different audience members makes the effect play large and provides plenty of opportunity to get laughs. It is also important that Scott shares his reasons for why he does what he does, and carefully analyzes the pros and cons of various approaches (e.g. signed vs. unsigned, envelope or not, torn corner identification, and so on). Even if you don't go with Scott's approach, or decide to modify it, it will be because you have thought through the effect and the ramifications of various approaches. This is a strong routine, is very thorough, and for the price, I don't see how you could beat it. |

Thanks Darrin! I remember the show you're talking about--that was a great crowd.
You're right about it involving people from different parts of the audience. That really does help it to play bigger, and is something I do with many of my routines.

I can only echo Darrin's comments. This is a very strong routine and for $15 it's a real bargain!
Scott goes in to lots of depth and covers details that can only be learnt after performing a routine hundreds of times - he has done the hard work, so we don't have to! I'm looking forward to working on this very soon. Iain. |

Scott, question for you.
I plan on doing a bill in "whatever" in the restaurant I am at currently. It is a surrounded bar. I would be in the center and have people at the bar all around me. Would this a be good workable solution? Should I play to one side or the other? Should I just not even attempt anything in that environment? Hmm, maybe this should have gone in the Table Hopping section.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

This routine was designed to be performed in a variety of venues and working conditions. People all around is not an issue. Part of it was designed for bigger audiences--that is easily adapted to smaller venue. You'll understand what I mean when you read the manuscript. I've done it close-up for a handful of people, in restaurants, parlor shows, and platform shows.

So, I just purchased Scott's BTL manuscript and here's the verdict..
I absolutely love this routine. If your looking for some brand new, hi-tech gimmick that will load a bill into a lemon while your performing your 5 card repeat, you won't find that here. However, what you will find is a highly entertaining effect, with some very solid routining. I must admit, I currently use another marketed bill to lemon routine in my parlour act. After reading Scott's manuscript, I've decided that I'm changing to his routine. This is the way BTL should be performed. Here are some key points to remember.. *The lemon is handed out prior to the bill being borrowed *The spectator cuts open the lemon themselves *The bill is identified so that the spectator is certain that the bill is his! (There is a subtlety that Scott utilizes during the burning of the bill that is priceless. My absolute favorite part of the routine.) Bottom line... Buy this now, as everyone else has already mentioned on this thread. This is my first experience with Scott's work, and it certainly will not be my last. Excellent job Scott! Keep up the great work! |

For some reason ideas for Bill to Lemon or Impossible places always intrigue me. I got this one. It's a steal at this price.
Very well constructed routine with all the built in touches. You can tell this is a worker's routine. Great job, Scott! Greg

Folks I hope this is not asking too much, but how is the bill verified?..torn cnr, signature, serial no.?
The reason I ask is that here in Australia we have ridiculous plastic bills that don't tear or fold, so I'm wondering if Scott's routine is an 'Oz-bill'friendly' one. Thanks |

Here is what it says on the lybrary website;
Note that a part of this routine relies on features of the serial number of US currency. This may or may not work with non-US bills. Also burning currency my be illegal in your country. I have not read the routine yet, but it indicates, only part of the routine relies on the serial number. I am considering getting Scott's over another one based on the reviews I am reading here and it has twice as much content as the other one I am looking at. |

Has Scott's "Bill in Lemon" always been a single item, or, in its earlier life, was it part of one of Scott's multi-effects manuscripts? If in a multi-effects manuscript, which one?
Thanks for any info in this regard. Best, Mike

Mike,
To the best of my knowledge, this has always been a single item. And I'll concur with the others here that it's a great routine.
