"Oversized, preening and pampered athletes set in strictly defined roles and running elaborately orchestrated “plays” designed by a full bureaucracy of coaches seems, frankly, I dunno…unAmerican. Quite unlike the other football, where there are no plays, few coaches and wide latitude for individual initiative and improvisation. (How did we get stuck with the collectivist top-down heavy sport?) But, to each his own."
(Columnist for BigGovernment.com Mike Flynn) Now I know what it is about American Football that bugs me besides the starts and stops...it's the WHY's for the starts and stops. Australian Rules anybody? What do you think?.

I used to love football. I'm not sure why. My entire family watched it all weekend, growing up. Maybe it's the 'dinosaur' brain. Anyway, after the major strike and fighting among all the participants, it just left a bitter taste in my mouth and I went away...and never came back. The same thing happened with baseball.
I've tried Soccer, but after many many games over many years, I just can't get interested. I think it is mainly due to the lack of structure or whatever. But it never got a fair shake as I could never understand the stupidity of stampeding fans killing innocent bystanders. What's up with that? So at this point of my life, I just don't watch sports very often. Mostly individual sports; not team. Have you seen curling? That's pretty neat. I love watching that in the Olympics.

I stick with watching Horse Racing (I don't bet on 'em though) and the PBR (Pro Bull Riding) for my sports. I root for the live stock btw. I aklso like Flat Track Motorcycle racing if I can find it.
I like the idea of baseball but usually get bored. Football, same thing.

You can't dislike baseball, Doug. America is the best in the world at it!! They've won EVERY single world series!!
South has won only two Rugby World Cups. We would have won more, but some moron decided to let other countries compete in the world series, too.

They deserved it. I went to a championship game against the A's and Toronto spanked 'em.

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

American football, modern gladiators, who are pretty much super humans, lightning fast, quick agile and powerful, performing feats that we can only imagine, who quite literally show us that when your back is against the wall you knuckle down and hold fast. Not one step backwards, defend the goal at all costs. Not one step backwards, never stay down, rise and keep pushing forward against all adversity.
Athletes who sacrifice their bodies for the good of everyone, their teammates their families and the cities, states, schools and universities they represent. Athletes who, like the Spartan phalanx, refuse to yield and know they are only as strong as the person next to them, in fact, it becomes all about the person next to them. What I love about football is that it embodies everything that is American. Peace.

As you lay it out and state it...yes. Including annoying Officials making bad calls.
