Does anyone have any good tips for fanning cards? When I usually fan, I get about 20 cards to fan, and the rest of the cards just stay as a bulk.

New cards? If your using old ones they will be difficult to fan. If your really into flourishes buy the Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes, it has almost everything you need. In the fanning section it teaches:
Pressure fan Thumb fan Finger fan Side Spring fan One Hand Close Twirl Close Fan Twirl Reverse Pressure fan Reverse Thumb fan One Hand Reverse Close Left Hand One Hand Indices fan Right Hand One Hand Blank fan Right Hand One Hand Indices fan Twin fans S fans Card Circle Fan Within a fan Giant Pressure fan Giant Thumb fan Giant Angle fans Giant Circle Closing Fans and Circles Flower fan Automatic Flower fan Enough to last a good couple of weeks! An excellent book and a must have to all flourishers. |

Hi,
Dante King also has a video teaching exclusive fanning at http://www.danteking.com By the way, I had the same problem as you, maybe you should make sure that you don't do it too fast, and concentrate using your thumb to even the cards while fanning (if doing the thumb fan). Hope it helps. |

How about just don't use fanning and buy a new deck. I find that Fanning completly destroys my deck.

Don't forget about McBride's AOM series.....When I thumb fan sometimes the last cards buckle.

Fanning demonstrates dexterity and skill, something all performers should exhibit, even though you feel it destroys your deck.

James Swain has the best pressure fan ever... Besides, the flourish masters. It blew me away when I saw a picture of his fan.

A normal thumb fan won't do any damage on the cards.
Tips: Thumb and index finger of left hand holds beneath the deck at the bottom right corner. Keep small pressure here because works as the axle when fanning. The Deck should be inside the "Thumb fork" and angled about 270 degrees (45 degrees to the left.) When the thumb of the right hand moves around the deck, move it in a circular motion and at the same time press the cards down. (thumb should be near center of left side or top left). Try it with different pressures.
