Meir Yedid carries this
http://mymagic.com/bornstein.htm Does anyone on The Café use this watch that would care to tell us about it (or has had it and doesn't tuse it and an tell us about it). _______________ Mike Bornstein's original Psychic Mystery Watch stops the show with an unbelievable card revelation. The perfect card revelation for mentalists and magicians. Have a spectator select a card, then concentrate on the image of it in his mind. Pull back your sleeve to show a beautiful slim goldtone Movado style wristwatch with a black face. Take the watch off your wrist and give it to another spectator to hold. The spectator is told to stare into the watch's face, pretending it is a crystal ball, and see if she can visualize the name of the thought of card. Unknown to everyone else in the audience the watch mysteriously causes a miniature playing card to materialize behind the crystal. It is the selected card. As the spectator announces the name of the thought of card the image slowly vanishes from the face of the watch. An impossible effect where one spectator apparently reads the mind of another. The Psychic Mystery Watch is so unexpected, so impossible seeming, that the spectator will just remember thinking of a card and then being told what he is thinking. Mike Bornstein's Psychic Mystery Watch includes the specially manufactured goldtone Movado style wristwatch with black band. Unlike previous releases of the routine this watch has a genuine Quartz movement, which allows for more deceptive routines.

Mr. Mauro,
I saw the watch in a magic shop but did not pick it up although the effect looked pretty good so I have really no insight other then the actual watch itself. The ad states a "Movado style wristwatch", I wish they wouldn't do that. What they mean is it has a blank dial with a marker at twelve and dauphine hands, much like the Movado Museum watch. I'm not a huge fan of Movado but they are decent as far as watches go, this is a simple quartz watch with a much more inexpensive case, band and movement. I'm not saying it's not a good deal, it looks like it is. Most watches styles are rip offs of watches made by high end watch manufacturers, the difference is they don't advertise it. I realize the people who make the watch want to give you an idea of what it looks like and give their product a little prestige, but just so you know it vaguely copies the style and in a couple of years the plating is going to probably be rubbed off. On the other hand just to give credit where credit is due, the price is very nice so you're paying for the effect plus getting a watch in the deal. Thinking back I probably should have gotten it, it really did look like it was worth the money. I just hem and haw too much when it comes to buying anything. As long as I'm being honest, Movado is a tad over rated to begin with. I don't want you in any way think I'm knocking the watch, I just don't want you to think you'll be getting something you won't. Respectfully, Phil |

Phil,
thank you very much for thew time you took to give those details. That helped so much in making a purchasing decision on this as they don't have a photo or greater details on thew watch. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated on this! Joe

Joe,
I do own a couple of these watches. haven't used them in years, but I will tell you that back when I did walk-around, they absolutely killed! I bought a couple, so that I could repeat the effect with a different result. My handling was a little different from the included/suggested presentation, which I wasn't for me. I would have the person select a card, then screw up the reveal, showing the wrong card. After a few failed attempts, and increasing embarrassment, I would offer a nonsensical explanation that the problem is that this trick only works at certain times of day (showing the watch), and it's obviously not quite that time yet.....(selected card suddenly appears in watch)! As for the "Movado Style" comparison; yeah, it's quite the stretch to compare the two, save for the black watch face. But it honestly doesn't matter, as the watch looks perfectly normal, like something the average person might wear. After-all, the Movado reference is simply a marketing description (albeit a highly exaggerated one), as you're not going to show your watch as you explain "Here, look at my MOVADO-STYLE Watch!" Bottom-line, if you can force a card, you can do this effect, and, in the right conditions (people drinking doesn't hurt!), it does play very strong! e |

I don't have much to add other than to say that such watches have been around since at least the mid-1970s (that's when I bought mine) if not earlier and were produced in a variety of styles, some of which were replicas of popular brands. I don't know who first came up with the idea and marketed them -- it may well have been Bornstein -- so am not accusing anyone in particular of knocking off the idea although, obviously, many did.
