Socialized medicine sucks that is why we do not need it passed here! Actually socialized anythings sucks. Well, can't argue with intelligent and well thought out reasoning like this. In contrast, everything else sucks.

Both of the events that canceled a few weeks ago with fears of H1N1, called yesterday to re-book. It's starting to settle down here in Canada as the media has decided to report the facts and not the hype.
School absenteeism has also returned to normal rates, which is settling the minds of event planners. And the vaccination line-ups are very short now, so people aren't feeling as stressed and pressured. Yay! Clinton

Just got back from the hospital emergency. My daughter needed some stitching, which she got. We're home and unbilled and pretty content with our imperfect socialized system.

Well fire and police departments are state local governments not federal. Same with swere systems. Post office and DMV, I need to be clear, are you holding them up as an example of HOW GOOD the idea is? That is pathetic. Roads that have to be repaved every 3 years? Oh and sewere systems are local as well. You need to brush up a bit.
Let me ask you a simple question. Where is this authority in the Constitution? (and don't give me "general welfare" because it is spacific to the 18 enumerated powers so it does not fly) Forget if it is a good idea or not for a second. Put that aside if you can manage to look past your ideology. Go through the Constitution and tell me where congress has the authority to do things like FINE ME if I do not buy a spacific thing. (insurance policy) (Oh and forget auto insurance, driving is a PRIVELAGE not a right) See the thing you want to forget is that each state is where things should be taken care of. This is how we are set up as a republic. If Mass. wants to do it then cool. Anyone who wants it can move there, and if Fla. does not want to do it then anyone who does not want it can move there. The federal government has no authority to step in and do this as a mandate. Our Constitution simply does not allow for it. So why not ammend the Constitution? It seems the only way it can be done legaly. I tell ya the Constitution is an interesting document. More people should actually read it.

By that logic, all those massive insurance conglomerates should be broken up as well. At any rate, the state/federal argument is why there's talk of having a state opt-out exemption (which looks like it will be in the Senate version.) I wouldn't mind having state-level health insurance reform- provided the companies played by the rules of the state they're in. As for roads- you do realize how much wear is caused by regular use, correct? How much do you think it would cost to drive on a road maintained by a private company? And again, I do hold the post office up as a good example. They'll deliver all your Christmas cards for $0.44 each, in under a week. (Most cards I mail get there the next day.) They'll pick up and drop off at your doorstep six days a week, without charging extra for weekend delivery. They have drop boxes -everywhere- and you can buy stamps at your local supermarket. Just try to get any other company to do that for you. Can you prove me wrong?
