I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, but anyway, if it isn't, then it will get moved anyway....so here it is: For all of you who are fairly early in your years of doing street magic or close up magic - I wouldn't necessarily think it would be really fun to be like David Blaine or Criss Angel. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm no one famous or anything, but I've lived here in Lubbock, TX for all my life and have been doing magic for over 38 years now. Lubbock isn't a big city but then again, isn't a small town either. The population here is about 215,000 people with another 28,000 temporary population from Texas Tech University. So in essence, about a quarter of a million people here at any given time. So decent size, but, like I said, not a big city either. Anyway, since I've been doing magic here in TX, OK, and NM areas for that long, it seems like a lot of people have gotten to know me in this area. Since I live here in Lubbock, it's the worst here. Almost everywhere I go here, people see me and ask if I have any tricks I could show them, their friends or their family members. It can be going to a doctor's appointment, a mall or store, even when I'm out on a date at a restaurant, people come up a lot of times and say can you do a trick or tricks for me or us? There's even been times I've just put a fork full of food in my mouth when that's happened. Also, I've gone to the movie theatre and before the movie starts, people ask me. Sometimes I tell them I don't have time because the movie is about to start. It happens a lot more often here in Lubbock, but it often happens out of town also. In fact, the last 2 times I went to San Antonio, I've been asked. This last time, I got stopped 3 different times when walking down the historic River Walk in San Antonio. This was all in one night too. Then the next day, at New Braunfels, TX (close to San Antonio) at Schlitterbahn Water Park, someone asked me. San Antonio is over 400 miles away. Well, like I said, I'm not famous or anything (and thank goodness I'm not) but sometimes this can be very irritating. I don't even remember one single time in about the last 15 or 20 years here in Lubbock that I've gone to a bar or pub and people don't ask for tricks. Please don't get me wrong with all this complaining. I really do love to perform magic although it almost sounds like I don't right now. Some of my friends tell me I'm famous LOL! But I know it can be irritating to them also when it happens all the time. I know when you are famous, that most of the time it comes with money...such as with David Blaine and Criss Angel. And that's part of the price you pay when you are famous is to be hounded by people. But then again, if you are making all that money, maybe you don't have AS MUCH right to complain. Now I do understand it can still be annoying and you wouldn't want that all the time. That why I emphasized the words "AS MUCH". But when you're someone like me who isn't making huge bucks, then is it really worth it? When I was younger, I thought it would be really great to be a well known magician, but you have to think about the situations that come with this popularity. Again, I don't have all this money like the television superstars either. Just something to think about. I've carried close-up effects in my pockets so I am always ready to do tricks anytime and anywhere for about the last 25 years or so and also I do the larger shows. I've worked in restaurants doing close-up since '86 too. Anyway, all I have to say is that popularity isn't always all it's cracked up to be. So don't be so anxious about it. I'm not saying to not try to always get better and alo perform for people. I'm just saying "Be Prepared" And besides, I do enjoy performing most of the time, it's just in some situations and some times I don't. Anyway, give me your opinions on what y'all think.

You'd be more popular here if you'd use paragraphs.
"Don't run with those..."
