Ben Harris’ :: PSI Stealth
Ben Harris’s has just popped up another fascinating book from his back collection. This book however, is more interesting like most. The PDF does require the magician to already have or purchase an expensive prop in order to perform the magic. However, after I received the PDF, I emailed Ben and raised this issue to which he commented that this PDF is about getting magicians to look into another prop that he enjoyed and this PDF will help them make up their minds on whether to buy the prop or not. The object in question is Yves Doumergue’s PSI Pen. This is available from most online UK and USA dealer sites. So, how does Ben convince us to spring for such an expensive pen? With cool magic of course! Firstly, Ben gives a very detailed introduction. In fact, it’s so detailed, it fill’s 2 pages worth. This really set the PDF of for me. He talks about the pen itself and its advantages over other tip style pens. He also talks about the disadvantages of the routine enclosed with the pen and this unravels the whole being of the PDF. It’s such a shame I don’t own this prop because the tricks in this book are right up my street. I’m a huge fan of PK magic and am always interested in new and exciting ways to accomplish these feats. Venturing on into the PDF, I would first like to say, if you have any kind of tip pen then you can still pull good value from this book. Some of the idea’s can be easily translated into other pens and gimmicks. Ben briefly goes though to dos and don’ts with the pen. How to manage it and how to keep it working when you need it to. Then we move on with the tricks. The first trick really can be adapted to a normal tip pen although; it may not be as accurate. The theme is a duel. This is a really clever use of the pen. Unlike most trick of this nature, the pen is not the key object. Although it is in play, it’s only there to prop up an object. That’s why this trick in particular caught my eye. The thought that this trick can be accomplished and the first thing they’re going to grab is NOT the pen. That’s just cool. It’s always nice to find a trick that puts the key object out of sight, out of mind. As Ben is ever the gentleman, the trick he criticises at the beginning of the book, he kindly gives his offering, going in depth into small tips and tricks to pull of the same sort of effect but in a completely different way. He continues this trick further and creates a whole theatrics around it, introducing some more normal sharpie markers. This is another brilliant idea. Such a simple step in the evolution of the previous trick, but you can immediately see the advantages of presenting it this way. The last effect in the book is Houdini’s Phone call. This is more theatrics as opposed to method. It’s a brilliant idea and I can see how it would freak the hell out of people, very clever thinking regarding the pen again. The routine itself would work beautifully in a serious or dark scary setting. To finish my thought’s, I believe that this book does have some really interesting thoughts. If you own the pen already, defiantly get this book as you will find new ways of utilising the pen. If you don’t own the pen, some of the idea’s can be translated to cheap more accessible pens. However, it does loose a couple of stars purely for the price of the object involved. I’m not 100% sure that if you don’t own the pen, this book will convince you to shed the money for the object. It would have been brilliant to see some thoughts on some other tip pens in the book so that we could all enjoy the magic within this book. “This book is invaluable if you own Yves Doumergue’s PSI Pen. You will learn how to utilise the pen is some rather genius ways that bring to heat to the object itself. If you don’t own the pen then you may still be able to get some valuable presentation ideas for some other tip pens. The book is filled with workable and clever tricks.” *** 3/5 stars Available at: http://www.wowbound.com Jamie Daws

Hey Joe,
The PSI pen itself isn't a tip pen as such. It has state of the art electronic capabilities which means it can be used and triggered in differen't ways. Hence the price tag. best, Jamie Daws

Hi Mr.Daws. Thanks for the information.
The DVD I mentioned says on the ad "With a few inexpensive electronic components" so I think it may operate as you say. Thanks! Joe

Hi guys.
As such, the PSI SHARPIE is not a tip pen. It was designed to revolve 360 degrees on the table. However, using it as a "tip pen" is much more subtle. The only advantage it has over the mechanical tip pens is that you can trigger it at whim. Cheers Ben

This is a fantastic manuscript! The presentational ideas are typical Ben Harris, clever, creative, subtle and full of engaging context.
I too wish I had the prop now and if this doesn't bring it's sales back to the level they were at it's release then there is no justice! ***...there goes my bank account again...thanks a LOT Harris!!

I finally finished reading this book and all I can say is I need to get me one of those pens. I havent really come across this pen so I wasn't to familiar with what it was. As I was reaidng through this I could tell that Ben did his homework and took the time to put these ideas and routines together as always. Im very impressed with all the routines, but my favorite has to be "The Houdini Phone Call." It had my attention from the description of the effect. It has such a creepy and scary feel to it and I do not doubt for one second that this could freak the hell out of someone.
I rate a 4/5 stars **** Bernardo Rodriguez |

Thanks guys,
I'm glad you are enjoying the material. I noticed that one of our online distributors had this listed right beside the PSI Sharpie pen at his website. LOL. Cheers Benny
