Hello all,
I'm Scott Smith, from Scotland, suitably enough, and I've finally decided to join the Café. It seems like a truly wonderful place to meet and share ideas. So- I have an important show coming up at the end of november, and have only just been notified of it. There is going to be around 6000 people at the event, and I have been booked for two 15 minute slots. Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas for routines that would work well? My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this sort of thing, hopefully someone can direct me to the right section. Hope you all can help... |

Dear Reawaken_wonder,
Welcome to the Café. I don't presume I can answer but it would help to know more. Will you be working on Stage? How many people in the Stage area? What kind of Magic do you already do? Were you hired on the basis of something they saw you do? Good Luck, -Mary Mowder |

6,000 is a nice size audience. Too large for coins yet too small to form a city.
Welcome to the forum.

More info about the show, it will be on a raised platform in front of the audience, I was booked on the basis of a close up show I did for one of the bookers- mentalism based. This audience will be mostly family's, as its a christmas 'turning on of lights' show. I'll be doing a floating table with a child from the audience, but the difficulty lies in choosing material that is right for the type and size of the audience. The mentalism based material that I perform, might not be fun enough for children and perhaps won't play well due to the vastness of the crowd. Any ideas?

It played very well as did flag productions and a flock of pigeons from a tip-over box. As far as Christmas themes a production of decoration strings of Christmas lights would be large enough. Mr Electric's stringed lights productions might give you some ideas. Productions of Christmas characters would play well. Mentalism .... if the plot is direct and simple to follow such as Tossed Out Deck. Max Maven said in a lecture that he's worked some enormous crowds. Sounds like fun actually.
