So .. recently I've been having a bit of trouble with my wireless mics. I've been using Samson VR3TD units for years with great success. I have multiple rack set-ups with two receivers, one for a lavaliere unit and the other a hand held mic. Each unit is a different channel. Over the weekend we were picking up something on the unit with channel 11. It was like it was possessed .. full bars, static .. then it would stop.
I had a second receiver at home, also channel 11 and the same thing happened. I pulled the unit out .. with no other electronics connected to it and got the same results. I'm not sure what's going on here but, with all the new gadgets being used these days is something crossing over into my wireless channel range? I've never seen anything like this .. and it's not just at home, this was out on the road. Suggestions anyone?? Steve |

Sounds like whatever you have that is on channel 11 might be at fault...

Just a thought. How new is the unit? I run the sound board for my church and one of our tech publications mentioned that the available frequencies for wireless mics were going to get smaller to free up room for new tech. If the unit is older, it may now be using part of a frequency that is allocated to something else. I personally haven't had this happen yet, but it was brought up as a possibility. If the unit is new(er) it shouldn't be an issue.

Monk, I've heard the same theory .. and this may be exactly what's happening. I don't remember exactly how old the units are but, they are older VHF technology. I've never had any trouble with them in the past and you know when you get use to something .. you stick with it. I really like the lav that I'm using and like I said, I've got multiple units for different rack set-ups. It would be costly to replace everything at this point.
I still haven't heard from customer service at Samson .. but, we'll see. Steve |

I know about replacement costs, not a fun thought. Hopefully Samson can help. Let us know if you ever find out what it is. Good Luck.

I spoke to customer service at Samson and they said to simply adjust the squelch control on the receiver. It seemed to work at home .. but, we'll see what happens out on the road. I never had to mess with it before.

I'm sure it will be fine. I don't think it would let you down after all these years.

Sounds like a plan. I'll have to remember that if I ever run into a problem.

If you perform near to the receiver (with it on stage, where it should be, not in sound booth) you will be able to raise squelch level, because you will have enough radio signal in the receiver.
Only in situations where the receiver has to be long from the transmitter you should lower the squech to the point where your voice doesn't cut when moving by the stage. So, set your squelch as hight as you can. |

Our sound rack is just off on stage right most of the time. I guess the squelch reduces the range of distance between the transmitter(mic) and the receiver in the rack.
It's been a while since I had to dig out the owners manual .. I hate reading those things. Steve |
