I have been doing magic for while but nothing professional as of yet. I have been working on my parlor magic act and I want to pursue doing some restaurant magic and parties. What kind of message do the people on this board have on their business phone lines for when they are not available? It seems to me like it would be a good idea to have a professional sounding studio recording describing the type of services provided. Anyone have something like that and how did you make it or whats a good reasource for something like that? Thanks for the help guys.

Our phone message invites the caller to leave a message and or check out our web site for more information. It is just my voice on the message and it was done by speaking into the answering machine/phone. We do not list all the services we provide on the message, the caller is directed to our web site for that.
One thing that we find is important though is to change the message when we are out of the office and on the road, even if it is just for one night. This lets the caller know that we will be unavailable to answer their call until we return and we always give that date in the message. We do give them the option of sending an e mail at those times which can be answered quicker since we always take a laptop with us and check our e mails regularly. |

Hello. You are through to PartyMagic.ie. I am sorry I cannot take your call, but please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Recorded by me, over the phone. Keep it simple but professional. Don't give them an information overload; you are not there, so let them leave a message and get on with their day. And don't ever go for one of the silly gimmicky message, with silly voices and sound effects. Nothing causes me to move on to the next name on the list quicker.

For those folks who use voice-overs, do you use this on a special answering machine that you purchased (and if so, why system do you use), or do you run this through the system you phone company provides?
I've always wanted to use a voice-over but so far I haven't been too impressed with the quality provided by the phone companies. Thanks, Gerry |

Kevin, I totally agree with you. If anyone's interested, my Magic Enhancer Volume 1 CD has some voicemail options for performers to use. If you're interested in a custom greeting, the customized CD will have that option as well as 14 other customized tracks with YOUR performance name. But I do agree, a professionally recorded voicemail is important. I believe it gives your business credibility and professionalism. I mean, if you're a part-time kid show only performer it might not be necessary but otherwise I like to think of it as a necessity. Of course, this is only my opinion.
Gerry, my voicemail is set up through ringcentral.com. It's a WONDERFUL site and you can pretty much do anything you want. For instance, I have a toll free number and it is set up through them. I can create "rules" so that I can have my house phone ring x amount of times and then my cell phone ring after the house phone rang x amount of times. You can pretty much do whatever you want. One of the greatest features I like is that when they leave you a voicemail, RingCentral emails you the voicemail right away to your email address. This is very handy for me as I'm on the road quite a bit. Definitely something to look into. It's relatively inexpensive (I pay about $15/month for my toll free number and a few extras) and I'd probably pay $30 a month because it would still be worth it. you can even upload your Magic Enhancer CD track to it as a file and don't have to hold your phone to the speaker of your computer like I've done before. Just worth checking out. Of course, I have no affiliation for them whatsoever. It's an unbiased testimonial. Hope this info helps:) Robert Haas

Dave Dee's course taught you how to turn your voicemail into a 20 secs mini commercial. I've been using it and it's good.

Hey Sam- I'm doing well. Long time no talk!! cool service you have. I believe you can subscribe to the same service through Ring Central. I'd just be careful that the person knows what they're talking abo ut! They could cost you a sale. As professional as you are though Sam, Iknow you got that covered!!!

I would just like to give Magic Enhancer a PLUG here. Robert did my Professional Voice-Over CD and I have it on my phone. I have gotten more compliments over the last 6-months by Magicians and Clients then I have had in the past 25 years. It is very professional and my Clients think that it is great. So give him a try and I bet that you are happy with his service. I also use a Custom Track designed by Robert to OPEN all my shows. The comment has been,
