Thank you very much. I'll have to put some more stuff on Doug's hallowed pages in the very near future.

Liam, I also enjoyed the effect. I'll have to put it to practice as I know a few people around here who would like to sell their souls to the devil....
Bizarre Magick is indeed an interesting place to visit ... and often, as new things always seem to appear! We had a scare the other day with the sudden disappearance of the site due to low funds and the inability to keep it going ... fortunately it returned and I ask that you support it by purchasing the interesting items available there for sale. Here's a link to it - USE IT! http://www.bizarremagick.com

I am working on an effect that centres around this theme for my new coming show in collaboration with Caleb Strange which we are currently writing along with Caleb's book which is sure to be something to behold when finished.
On stage a brick wall is visible. On either side of the brick wall is a table and chair. On top of the tabletop rests a full chess set. Behind the spectator and the performer largely projected upon the wall is a video link of the chess sets from above, ensuring everyone can see exactly what is happening with the chess pieces and the moves that are to be made are visible. The performer and the spectator each take a seat. They can not see each other and throughout they only speak in simple “Yes” and “No” statements. The performer requests the spectator make a move, choosing either black or white chess pieces and move any piece to any position on the board regardless of the rules. The spectator makes her move. The performer concentrates for a moment. The performer makes his move, and it is seen to match perfectly the move of the spectator. This is repeated a further four times. Within this presentation (playing chess with the devil) comes the moment when the spectator can chose either to sell their soul or to return to their seat. It offers a moment of pure drama and the reactions from the assisting spectator is fantastic. If they chose to sign then the effect takes a dark twist, if not, the effect finishes on a wonderful "what if...." moment. Luke "inspired by the Italian Job" Jermay. |

The effect will not be in the book. It will however appear in the show.

Montz, that sounds like something I would say.
I looked at the effect and it looks great. I should try it sometime, but I'll probably change the story to a witch that grants wishes or something. The whole selling your soul thing might frighten some people away from wanting the effect performed on them. I like it though, very cool. |

Cheers Anabelle, I tend to do the effect without telling them what's going to happen first...
I ask them to write down something that they really really want, and then I take the paper from them and go into the selling your soul thing. Cheers for your comments, and I'm sure we'll chat soon... Liam |

Don't sell yourself short... I performed this last week in a casual setting and it was a hit! Of course presentation is very important with this effect ... Anabelle brings up a good point: in my performance I DID mention selling their soul to the devil to have ANY wish granted right up front ... a couple of people present thought this was a bit "heavy" and wouldn't participate, but someone took the bait eventually and you should've seen everyone jump when they saw the "sign!" I'm still hearing about it.
I don't know what everyone thinks, but I liked it and will perform it again. Don't let it go to your head, but keep adapting and creating, Liam ... you can grow a lot this way ... and besides, you just never know.... :comply:

Thank you Alexandre for the kind words.
It's encouraging to someone new to bizarre magic such as myself to hear that my pieces work for people that have been doing this for a while. Cheers. Liam. |
