I'm trying to see what kind of "new" effect can be created with rubber bands. To my knowledge, there is only a limited number of effects...
1) penetrations (ala CMH or objects) 2) linking of two bands (imagined or real) 3) broken and restored (ala Snap! or Ebony and Ivory) I have Harlan's band videos and several other effects based on bands. I'm trying to find "a new concept" in band magic. Does anyone have any suggestions on something 'new'? - Alex PS. I am working on effect that goes like the following, please let me know if there is any interest (or market) for it: You hand a broken rubber band to a spectator and ask them to tie a knot in the middle. You then explain you will fuse away the knot without using the ends. You then take the band from the spectator and put it into your hand, leaving the broken ends clearly visible. You then show them you haven't done anything funny with the knot and so you can't do anything funny with the knot, you hand them the band into their clenched hand. *perform your magic dance here* You then proudly announce you have removed the knot while the band is in their hand. They then open their hand to find the knot still in tact, but the band has been repaired and the knot can't be removed! Does it sound like anything already out there already? PSS. Sorry about the long PS.

Sounds like the Jumping Knot of Pakistan with rubber bands. Just a Guess.

I just got finished filming 30 new Rubberband effects with L&L Publishing. There will be a lot of new plots and premises in the DVD. As far as your effect I have things similar but not exactly to the way you described.

Let me know when it is coming out and my order will be there before you can blink! What effects did you do? Any preview available? Any tricklist available? What will the video be called?

It's a little premature for me to release names and that type of stuff. L&L does a great job of producing and editing DVDs but unfortunately it take time. I can tell you this. I performed and explained four effects from Elastrix Vol.2:
Jo-Dan Link Remote Link Rubber Necking One t(w)o one There is a variation on pans that's awsome!!! A NEW RUBBER BAND SLIEGHT !!!!! It makes possible for many new effects on the DVD!! And some other stuff. I don't want to give to much stuff away, but I can tell you it's not the same old stuff. Some of this stuff has never been seen before. I did 6 volumes of DVDs and the rubberband stuff was my favorite. Joe Rindfleisch

This month's Genii has an pretty neat looking rubberband effect using the Lubor Lense. (Reality Twister).
The idea of putting a permanent knot in a rubber band seems to be new. John |
