Hi Mike...
My favorite puppet is the NEXT one! I'm a process guy so I'm always excited about creating new characters, which means I'm pretty excited right now. We've just made a bunch of new ones which I think is some of our best work. The World's Oldest Man http://www.axtell.com/wom.html Cheeky Monkey http://www.axtell.com/cheeky.html Weasel - http://www.axtell.com/weasel.html The Hang-On Monster http://www.axtell.com/monster.html Chuck the Duck http://www.axtell.com/chuckduck.html Meerkat - http://www.axtell.com/meerkat.html Regarding your Possum, it was made back in 1990 or 1991... it was a colaboration sculpture experiment. I had 2 other sculptors working in the company so John started the possum and gave it the look, Lynn worked on it a little and I finished it off. I've got some old Favorites too... they are like good friends.

I remember (30 years ago?) when I first saw your one page black and white ad, with the bear in the middle of a bunch of cool puppets. Ronald Reagan was one of the puppets you offered. (The latex Ronald, not the real McCoy.) I mentioned the bear so often to a friend of mine that he gave it to my wife and I as a wedding present! He is always the hit of the show. He usually opens and comes back to a round of applause near the end.

I must say that the Dodo Bird is my most used Axtell Puppet. Next to that, Wildthing. But you really can't beat the MDB for variety!

Tony, I've heard of the wisemen bearing gifts, but I didn't realize you got a bear AS a wedding gift! That is a great story...and you've been performing with him forever since. Great story indeed.
Daniel, There's something about that simple silly Dodo isn't there? Ha.

The Cat!!!
the Alley Cat has been through over a hundred shows (school assemblies mostly) since we got him. It's not much I know, but since we have day-jobs... for us that's a lot. (I'm just the musician. My partner gives the cat life) Tim |

I love my Vern, especially since the animated arm adds an extra element of mystery to the routine I do. Thanks Steve!

Great to hear!
Yeah the Bird Arm Illusion even without animation is often very mind blowing to people. I've had very smart adult engineers in the audience who come up afterwards and say "it took me a while, but I finally figured out how to you operate that bird, you have wires and cables in the fingers of your glove (which is why you wear one) and those go up the bird and control it. Well done!" I NEVER tell them how it's really done I just pat them on the back and tell them how smart they are. Ha. At conventions, I've even put it on in full view of magicians who want to buy it...and as soon as the bird goes over the arm, and it moves... some will ask "okay I get how you put it on, but how the heck is the bird moving?" No kidding.

I love the bear too. Although my three year old son, Jasper, is scared of him. I pulled him out to practise with yesterday, and even though Jasper saw me pull him out and put him on, as soon as the bear came to life he jumped back in fright. I think it's the size and the teeth.
Magically yours,

It's just his age... Make the bear very shy... hide his face under your arm...afraid to come out. Let the child call his name, but still he's afraid to come out... he is afraid of kids (reverse it) ... Eventually the bear will be his favorite BECAUSE of his size and teeth!
