Recently, Bruce Gold performed at Wizardz Magic Theater in Kissimmee/Orlando, Florida and gave a lecture following. Bruce's performance was great; with the perfect mix of magic and comedy. I could go on about the show; but I want to specifically comment on the lecture.
If you get an opportunity to see Bruce lecture, you owe it to yourself as a performer to do so! This was one of the better lectures I've seen this year and I've seen quite a few. If you're not a magician and are only attending lectures to learn the tricks you just saw in the show; then you're not going to want to go to Bruce's lecture. However, if you perform at any level, in any venue or hope to someday do so; then you would benefit from seeing him lecture. Bruce didn't teach any tricks at the lecture. Sure, he had lecture notes and items available for sale; but he focused his lecture on making those of us who were there, better performers. He touched on audience management, how to handle difficult spectators and helpers, how to choose assistants, prop management, prop placement, attitude, stage presence, what to do when things go wrong, dress, using music, comedy...everything related to helping you become a better, more effective performer - regardless of your act or your level of experience! Within the first three minutes of his lecture, I had obtained enough valuable and instantly applicable information that I had gotten my money's worth and then some! He was engaging, thorough, informative and fun. He shared his experience, expertise, philosophy and heart with us in a manner that is rarely seen in magic lectures these days. He took time to answer questions and, afterwards, took time to sign lecture notes and routines for those who bought them and to further discuss the points made in the lecture on a brief, but more one-on-one basis during that time. He was fun, kind, gracious, effective and - most of all - sincere. Thank you, Bruce; both for taking the time to perform for us at Wizardz and for providing us with the opportunity to learn so much from you at the lecture. Your time with us there is greatly appreciated and will not soon be forgotten! Those in attendance are still talking about how great it was and we have all taken the information you shared with us and have applied it to our routines and performances so that we give our clients - our spectators - better shows! To my fellow magi, (and other performers): If you have an opportunity to see Bruce Gold lecture, please take it. You won't be sorry! Kind Regards, Robert "Bendy" Benedict |
