Every year I give away a free trick for the holidays. Well I'm keeping with the tradition but it's going to be a little different this year. I'm not going to give away a trick. I hope no one is disappointed. But what I am going to give is something that I think is much more magical.
As some of you may know. I just had my Cochlear Implant turned on a few days ago and I'm beginning to be able to hear again for the first time in about 20 years. So magic really hasn't been to heavily on my mind lately. I'm experiencing a whole new world around me. I'm sitting here right now in front of the computer and I've sat in this very spot hundreds of times in the last year. But in a way I feel like I've never been here before. Down the hall way I'm hearing a "Crunch Crunch" sound. I look down and discover that the mysterious sound is my dog eating his dry dog food. I can't help myself as I type to sometimes make a rhythm of the tapping of the keys on my keyboard. As I move some sheets of paper on my desk I'm greeted with a "crinkling" sound of the paper and it bends and slides. If I get bored all I have to do is grab a couple of objects and tap them together and compare the sound of them to the sounds of other objects making contact. I got a package in the mail today. I can actually hear Bubble Wrap again. Enough said. I'm still in baby land when it comes to sound. If a sound comes from behind me I'll hear it but I won't know what I heard until I turn around and look. But I can hear it and that's something I haven't been able to do in almost 20 years. My ability to identify sounds will improve in time though. So this new world I'm experiencing is just the start. So my gift to you all is this. When your bored, frustrated, angry, sad, confused. Take a break and just look around you. Or listen around you. There are things around you that you ignore all day long. You ignore the sound of the air coming from the vents. If you have a pet you ignore the sound of their dog tags jingling. Perhaps there are objects around your home that you've never really examined in detail and wondered how it was created. Put the big issues aside from time to time and focus on the smallest and simplest things and realize that there are people out there who would love to be able to hear, see and experience those things. Happy Holidays. Ron Jaxon |

Ron,
As you know, around the holidays, a lot of online magic shops give away free PDF's and such and they are always very exciting. I started reading your post and was excited to know what new trick I would learn. If it was something that I already knew, it would be a reminder of something simply forgotten or a new twist on an old trick. I am never disappointed with these online holiday gifts. As I continued reading and saw where your post was taking me, I felt humbled in in my own spirit and most importantly, in the presence of God. Your words quickly picked me up and raised my spirit again as I realized that I am human and that I often take the most obvious things in life for granted. I also realized that because I am human, I have the ability to see life in a different way. What you gave me today was a gift, it was free, it is a lesson learned, a reminder of things simply forgotten or taken for granted and a new twist on the appreciation of the things around me. My 3 year old son has 2 parakeets. I never hear them even though I know they are singing. I have grown so used to the sound that I do not even notice it anymore...until today...they are singing beautifly. Thank you for offering the best online magic trick as a free gift for the holidays! This is the best gift I have ever "downloaded" and now I would like to "upload" a gift to you...the gift of thanking God. I thank God that you are experiencing your hearing again and I pray that he immerses you around the most wonderful sounds that He has ever created. God bless you Ron! Frank |

Hi Ron
It's nice to see good things happen to good people! I hope you never hear the sound of IT breaking. ;0) Ralph

Thanks Ron for reminding us to NOT take things for granted. It's so easy to do until you've lost what seemed so ordinary. Then you long just to have that ordinary back. I'm so very happy for you. What a gift. You made my Christmas.

Thanks for the sharing and the willingness to discuss "magical" rather than "Magic". My wife is very visualy impaired, and exh Christmas moring every package is opened individually so that he can savor the sounds and small comments that accompany the 'discovery', and then she learns a lot about hte person and the gift using senses I scarcely understand, but when she says, "I knew you would have preferred blue, but it only came with beads on it that I know you hate," and no one had said a word, I know a bit more of what magic is.
