I would recommend against it. Here is a quick story as an example.
I was flipping throught the channels on the Magic Picture Box also known as the Television. I happened to see a show called blind date that said a magician was going to be on. I was intrigued so I stopped. The date was going good until she asked the guy what he did. I am a magician he stated. He then borrowed a dollar from his date and did a Hundred Dollar Bill switch. During his switch, he started pattering about nothing going about 100 wpm it seemed. His voice got deeper and he was very incoherent. At the end, she took the hundred, and told him that he had weirded her out because his whole persona changed. 2 Lessons here: 1. Don't do magic on a date if you don't know the person that well. 2. Don't make your performing persona so different that it scares/freaks people out when you step into it. XX |

Note I am no ladies man or romantic so take this with a grain of salt. So I say that if the date is going well with out the use of magic then don’t use it, but in my case I was on a first date and things were going pretty slow so I preformed PH Night Shades while waiting for our food she was blown away and it was a great ice breaker. She wanted to see more but I refused (keep her wanting for more) but from that moment on the rest of the date went well. Just my two cents.

I use magic to get the date! No I'm just kidding. For me magic is a huge part of my life and the person I am "getting to know" on a date should know about me. I would most likely tell them I do magic. Depending on how interested I am in the guy I and he asked me to show him something I would say "On our second date". That way they get to know your a magician, and you get to build suspense till the second date.
Oh yeah that will only work if the other person is interested in you too! |

Let the magic be. If you truly care about your date, that's enough magic for me!

Show her ONE thing but ONLY if she asks. Do something short and then get back to the two of you.

When you're on the date, you should # 1 be paying attention to her! Now if you're at dinner, it's not wrong to pick up a sugar packet from the table and do something impromptu looking. I think the key is to make it look totally spontaneous. Make it look totally impromptu. (even though you may have had some secret preparation and cunning pre-planning)
The effect should be by all means SHORT AND SWEET. Less than a minute, tops! What your looking for is something powerful and short. You need a REAL MIRACLE. And that looks as if you just happened to think of it at the spur of the moment. Maybe notice her ring and quickly make it vanish and appear in a sugar packet, or something along those lines. Vanishes and appearances are strong in this kind of setting. Pulling out a deck of cards from your pocket might be tacky in a dating situation, but table magic with borrowed objects such as sugar packets, napkins, a coin, etc is perfectly suitable. Check out some of Michael Close's restaurant effects from L&L Pub. You can find some sure fire winners, there! What impressed my wife for years was when we were in a restaurant and I just happened to glance to my left and plucked a full bloomed red rose "from thin air" and gave it to her. She remembered that until the day she died. It met all the criteria I outlined. It was short, sweet, POWERFUL, and seemed totally impromptu to her. PLUS it had the one element I have not mentioned yet. And that is irresistible to most women: It had a ROMANTIC theme. So magic is not out on a date. It just needs to be appropriate to the occasion, and it should not detract from the attention you are paying to her! Remember, on a date, the magic is not to show off what you can do. It is to give her good feelings, it is to make her feel wonderful!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Great advice doug!
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

O wrote a very long and interesting post that was waaaay better than all the tripe so far here... But I lost it when I tried to post this:
Unfortunately I can't bear to repeat those priceless pearls of wisdom.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Finally, that stupid picture took 7 tries. I don't think it was worth it, but you should feel honored that I went through all that trouble. Just for you!

Another guy who has incredible effects that might fit seamlessly in a dating situation is Greg Wilson. The videos he put out with L&L are chock full of great gems with borrowed finger rings, keys, and anything you can name.
