I find illusions very cool, but would hardly try them myself. Me and my friend are heavily into magic and saw how David Blaine apparently levitated 12 inches off the floor. We thought we knew how it was done until a magician went to my friend's house and levitated 12 inches off the floor in front of the whole family. I won't ask how it was done, but is it possible? He apparently laid his jacket on the floor, crouched down on top of it and when he stood up, started to levitate!

Chuds,
There are a number of self levitations commercially available: Balducci King Rising Wild Levitation Elevator ... and countless more. Did you see the levitation? What he facing you, was he holding his jacket in front of his legs? The more specific you are, the more we can point you to the correct literature. MagiCat |

I didn't see how he did it, but was told he stood in my friends living room and put his jacket on the floor. He crouched down over the jacket and stood up. As he lifted his arms, he levitated about 12 inches off the floor! At first i didn't believe but his sister and parents, whom are friendly and wouldn't make up a story said he really did just levitate.

Sounds like the elevator with one of those "special presentations" available in the booklet. I can't tell you much because it would be tipping the method for the elevator. Chances are it was 6 - 7 inches and the amazement factor added the other 6.
The booklet in question is only available to those who have purchased the original elevator trick - that is why I am so vague about it.

I do a version of the ilusion called the pocket levitator. I think it's Andrew Mayes that is the brain behind this close up illision.

Chuds,
Check out the Street magic and sidewalk shuffle forums for this kind of info. If you are levitating as part of an illusion show then you have far greater control/ability (see DC's flying for the perfect example!) than if you are doing this on the street or in someones living room - that's where the lev's mentioned before really come into play. Try searching (there is a search feature - top right of your screen) those forums for the following: Balducci King Rising Elevator (also check out this thread for more info about the elevator) Fearsons box (a cute little lev using a box) Hope that helps, Chris.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are
