Greetings. I have a question for the Gospel community. Every year I take my Tax refund and use it to purchase one or two higher end magic effects/illusions. This year I have my sights set upon a Nielsen or Proline Vanishing Dove Cage and an illusion called "The Cross" - This is marketed by Fairchild Magic - See: http://fairchildmagic.com/fairchild_magic_055.htm
My question is this. Does anybody know any other manufacturers that make a similar product so that I could compare and see which version I would like better. If so, please let me know. I am only interested in legitmate manufacturers of course. Thank you for your time. M. Reist You can PM me or e-mail directly at revmike@ptd.net if you wish.
The magic is not in our sleights and illusions, but instead in our ability to bring love and joy.

I saw Duane Laflin perform the cross illusion two years ago at Abbott's for the "Magi-Ministers" lecture session. Fairchild was in the audience- first time he ever saw it performed. He had tears in his eyes (true story)...

Mike,
I own the Cross Illusion from Fairchild. I also know Scott Humston and Duane Laflin, both friends of mine have also purchased this from Joe Eddie. I have to tell you that it is absolutely one of my favorite pieces. The presentation is very strong. I have used it in church performances and camps thus far and it is powerful. You can hear the audience gasp when the effect happens and it just reinforces such a strong message. Now about the actual item. I cannot say enough about Joe Eddie Fairchild's workmanship! It is amazing and magical all on its own. It works flawlessly, the travel case can be used in the presentation as a base for the child to stand on (it reverses if using an adult) and it is just a great piece. The cost for their props may be a little more than some others but I promise you, the workmanship is tough to beat if at all possible. If you purchase any of his items, you will be hooked for sure. If you have any specific questions on this illusion let me know and I am happy to help you out. |

Gary, I have a question regarding your post. I too own the Cross Illusion, and wonder what you mean when you say that the base reverses if using an adult.
I agree that Joe Eddie's workmanship is tough to beat. I also was in the audience when Duane Laflin performed it at Abbott's, and agree that it's a very powerful piece. Doug |

Doug,
I probably didn't say it right...I meant when a child or shorter person is being used you will use the base as a platform for them to stand on but if a taller person is used you simply reverse the cross on the base which allows the person to stand on the stage and allows you to use an adult as well...hope that clarifies my comment. Sorry for the confusion. |

Thanks Gary, yes that makes perfect sense, and I hadn't realized that before. Knowing this opens up more opportunities to use this, thanks. Revmike, sorry I'm getting away from the main topic of this thread, but this has been helpful, and had you not posted this, I wouldn't have learned something new!

I appreciate all the comments. Please keep them coming. To date, and not only concerning this particular illusion, I have heard nothing but positive comments about Fairchild. I actually own a couple of his pieces and am well pleased with them.
As I said, I more than likely will purchase from Joe but just wondered if there were any other versions made just so I could compare. Thanks again for all the comments. Mike

I do not own the cross effect but I do own a lot of other effects from fairchild magic and I can say fairchild has great customer service and the effects Joe bulids are of very high quality. Everytime I do business with Fairchild magic they treat me great. I wish other magic company had this type of customer service.
I thought about purchasing the cross effect from Joe a while back so he sent me a dvd with Duane performing the cross and I think the effect is strong and does a great job of getting the message across. My 2 cents.... |

I actually just came into some money today (yes God does work in mysterious ways) and have placed my order with Joe. And, he is actually building them this week so should have it in only a couple of weeks. Talk about timing.
Again, thanks everybody for the comments.

Just received it Friday and actually just put it together today.
I can say I am impressed and it will be my showpiece when I have the larger Gospel Shows with a full stage or large area to work with. Right now I am just working on the tying of the ropes.
