Hey just wondering what you thougt about using the www. or not usingit.
meaning http://www.samsandler.com OR samsandler.com I have on some stuff dropped the www. as by now even the people living inthe dark ages knows what it its and means. so it takes less space But does it not draw attention to the fact that it is a website. thinking that soem people see the www. and look to see what the site is and maybe they wodu not take a second look if there was no www. am I over thinking this or is there merit. I hav done some research and noticed that jsut like Ihave done over the last 2 years soem places and businesses have dropped the www. whats your thoughts?? sam ps HAPPY NEW YEAR

I see no advantage to using it.

Early browsers required the www. It's no longer an issue. Most browsers will "assume" the www if it isn't entered. I just think it's a cleaner image on a business card or brochure to leave the www off. I suppose it's one of those personal taste things.

I choose not to use it. In fact, I have a forwarder setup so if they DO type the www, it will forward them to just digitalblacksmiths.com (without the prefix).
However, this is important... choose one and stick with it. Google sees both sites as DIFFERENT sites and as such, you could lose page rank and google love if you go back and forth. As for them not realizing it's your site, they should remember YOU not the site. The fact that you and your site are identical is perfect. That makes them think of you and your site as one. IT's a weird thing to describe, especially on New Year's, but I think I'm getting my point across! Scott |

Yeah its canacolization (if you want to do the research for SEO purposes)
http://www.yourdoamin.com and yourdomain.com are the same site.. but googles sees subdomain.yourdoamin.com,, http://www.yourdomain.com,, yourdomain.com as 3 different sites on the same domain you will lose google love if you start getting indexed on both.. because google will see one or the other as duplicate content.. the FIX.. use a url rewrite (wordpress can do this for you) like a 301 redirect to point http://www.yourdomain.com to yourdomain.com this way google sees that http://www.yourdoamin.com has permenatly moved to yourdomain.com and will drop all the www from the index removing duplicate content issues ---- ok I THINK I said that right... day 3 of flu, with wife on day2 of no Flu, and 2yr old on day 5 with.. then fireworks keepin me and 2yrold up till 2am so please excuse stupid mistakes.. if needed I will reexplain after a nap
its ok.. balloon dogs don't bite
