That is really cool!!! I had no idea they lit them one at a time like that. I had always thought there was a master fuse that, when lit, set them all off in a sequence. That must have been a blast (no pun intended...well...ok) being so close.

It takes so little time to empty the mortars people do not ralize the time that must be invested in safe set-up.
Last shoot I did in the Phoenix area the company I was working for disregarded some distance parameters by not clearing a specific parking lot I had complained about. Almost creamed a new $40,000 Cadillac, found one misfire had dropped right next to the Cad's right read wheel. I never worked with that company again as I found out they would regularly cheat on distance requirements. Anything over 3" I tend to switch to electronic firing -- electronic matches are much cheaper than body parts. In Tucson, where I reside, the fire department has worked to get all magicians to have an open flame license to cover ALL open flames (candles, lighters, flash paper, etc.) for public use of effects inside city limits. This is NOT a pyro license for NFPA fireworks standards use -- which is additional and requires supervised apprenticeship shoots.

Every kid's dream. - cool video.
The open flame license is a good idea if administered intelligently. I wouldn't mind one bit if I had to take a test or audition for a permit if it would help to weed out the drunken busker wannabe with a full beard, shooting fire badly and making an ash of himself. On the other hand, I don't want to get busted for using a Funken Ring either. Pyro techs who work for band acts should be licensed and bonded. The problem is, they often travel from state to state. Does that mean a new permit at every stop? chmara mentioned lighters on the list in Tucson. What's that about? It seems that nightclubs and arenas would need to have a whole different set of regulations. There would be many variables depending on location. Many situations would be impossible to enforce.

I didn't know Tucson had an open flame license, any tips or links as to how I can get one? Also curious as to what company you were working with, can you PM the name to me?
Thanks, Fitz
