Hello,
This seemed like the best place to put this. I've searched around some, but found no direct answer. What is the policy for posting on old threads? I know some forums discourage this, and I'm wondering what the Café's attitude toward it is. Often I'm reading through some year-or-more-old thread and feel like I could post something relevant. Should I post it, or just let it lay? In a similar vein, before creating a new thread, should I exhaustively search around to see if there is a thread on the topic, or should I just do a cursory search before posting (I tend to learn towards the former). |

Richard, thanks for asking. there are many old topics on the Café but that doesn't mean that they aren't valuable. If you see an older topic and have something to contribute, by all means post in that topic. You post will bring the subject to the top of the list and may spur others to comment. Of course adding a comment like "I agree with john smith" for example wouldn't add anything to the topic and would resurrect it unncessarily.
As for the search function. That feature is there to make life a little easier for our members to find subjects they are interested in. A simple search should provide results and you could contribute there but doing an extensive search would be time consuming for you. Remember you can only do a search every 2 minutes so an extensive search may take you a long time depending on what you are looking for. It's pretty much a "use your own judgement" when it comes to searching. If you start a new topic and we know of one already in existance, we can always link one to the other.

Dave, thanks for your response. I've been using good judgement, but in the past I've been on several forums where the community is not near as charitable as the Café's. It's nice that the Café seems much nicer.
Thanks again! |

Forgive me for sounding like a newbie, but I can not figure out how to start a new post. I've read the FAQ, I've read Steve's related post in "When Dining With Us," but I'm sorry, I can not find the Post New Topic button in any forum. I know how to reply to a post, just not start one. Perhaps I'm looking in all the wrong places. Please help!

Gregkoren, go to the forum you are interested in, the workers for example for cards and click on the forum. Under the logo on the left side of the page, under the MagciCafe index, you'll see in red letters "post new topic" click on that and you can start a new topic.

Thank you, Dave. I'm sure you tire of answering that question, but I greatly appreciate you taking the time for me. I found the Post New Topic in red letters, just where you said it would be!

Just as a note, when I first joined, it was hard for me to locate that button as well. Could be we're all just blind, or the button is in a weird spot compared to everything else.
