Ray, good on you for letting us know that it was you in the clip. We're all on a learning path. All the best in the future.
The presentation makes the magic.

Look, do it like Kozmo, or don't. It doesn't matter. As time passes you'll change this then that. This will work for you and that won't. You'll learn a new little something and you'll remove that.
Eventually it will bear no resemblance to anyone else. |

You gathered a good crowd and they enjoyed the show. I think many folks don't realize how difficult it is to get out there and perform. Congratulations on getting bout there and doing it! Chris

I love performing, but I HATE watching myself perform. It is painful, especially when one is, still, very far from the sort of "ideal performer" one would like to be... Still, I can't make an omelette without making myself look like an idiot, right?

Bravo Ray! I cheer anyone brave enough to get out there and do it ... again and again. In time your own voice, character, and style will begin to show through.
You are spot on gaddy, "Look, Kozmo sold the DVD. If this dude wants to be a poor imitation of Kozmo ..." and magnus, "Funny how some guys will say ..." Koz ... it is so good hearing from you. I remember asking you if I could do one or more effects from your DVD and you graciously said "yes". Since then I have performed your card routine many times and over the course of the year it has evolved into something else. So thank you for that impetus. We ALL learn by watching, listening, touching, feeling, and finally imitation. Over time we ALL find our own voice ... our own style ... our own way. "Children learn by imitating the behaviors of the people around them. Speech is learned by mimicking sounds and then connecting those sounds to objects, people or ideas. A toddler playing house will reenact events that have happened in her own household." - April Gilford It's how it's always been, it's no different now, and it will not change in the future.

In The Royal Touch Cellini talks about developing his own act: "... for myself, as a student of Slydini, imitating his every move and expression until I found my own style and rhythm".
Mozart said he merely rearranged old folk melodies. Elvis said his style was a combination of Jackie Wilson, Little Richard, Someone-I-cannot-remember and various gospel singers. Visiting the Salvador Dali museum in St. Petersburg you can follow the artists development through the years as he produced exact stylistic copies of the famous artists who preceded him before finally developing his own unique style. And so it goes... |
