Dan Garrett is Atlanta Magician of the Year. Dan is a great person and I think it is very cool to know the Magician of the Year and so close to home too. And I know he deserves it and more.
...Your professional woodworking and "tender" loving care in the products you make, make the wait worthwhile. Thanks for all you do...

Greetings, I too am very happy for Dan on this recognition. Here's a copy of the "newsflash" email I sent out to the mail list this afternoon, minus the photograph which I can't figure out how to get on here.
Dan Garrett Greater Atlanta 2009 Magician of the Year! Congratulations are in order for Dan Garrett who has just received the prestigious Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year Award. It has been 31 years since Dan received this award. He also has the distinction of being the very first 3-time winner of the Duke Stern Memorial Trophy. In addition to the above, Dan is a Past National President of the Society of American Magicians, and a very much sought after professional entertainer in the world of magic. At the risk of repeating myself, congratulations Dan on this latest well deserved recognition. They say behind every great man is a great lady so please extend my heartfelt congratulations to your lovely bride, Carol, as well. Kudos and the best always to you both. |

Thank you my good friends! I am certainly honored, and totally surprised by this.
There are perhaps several Atlanta magicians that were equally deserving of this honor this past year, some even more than me. A partial list: Joe M. Turner Debbie Leifer Ken Scott Paul Sponaugle Rick Hinze Rick Silver (All but 2 of these have previously been awarded the Duke Stern Memorial Trophy, and I'm sure they will all get their turn in the spotlight again.) Atlanta has a strong accounting of magical leaders and do-ers. If I wanted to complete the above list, I would have to include practically every Assembly 30 and Ring 9 member on the roles. Although I don't consider myself worthy, I am very honored and will do all I can to represent Atlanta magicians in the best way I can. As I have said to many of you privately, I treasure my friendships in magic much more than any awards I have received. I am wonderfully blessed.
