Hi guys (and gals),
I am in the proccess of redoing my site(it's been under construction forever). What is the general consensus on the best type to have these days. Blog, Sales letter, or a typical site? It seems like there are more blog or sales letter type sites popping up. I realize that a lot more questions have to answered by me to make the right decision. I'm just wondering what your experiences are. Thanks, Jack

Okay. I committed the cardinal sin and should have used the search function. I did find some threads on the subject.
Just the same, (if you don't mind) I still welcome any additional insight you may have. Also, any recommendations for a good designer? Thanks

Why would anybody (any potential client) want to read a magician's blog?
I've always said your website should be your 24-hour-a-day color brochure. |

There are plenty of ways to setup a website with some sort of content management system and use the "blogging" function to post articles related to your business, which can include tips, ideas and suggestions. The magician would not be posting what he had for lunch and what movie he watched, unless of course it relates to something in the business. |

Nonetheless, as a customer, I don't have the slightest interest reading a blog full of articles by my plumber, my mechanic, my grocer ... or some magician I might hire in the future (or have hired in the past).

You're right Majestic12. I wasn't talking about a standard type blog.
I appreciate the feedback Ross. I'm open to hear what others have experienced. Lately, as I search the internet, there seems to be more sales letter types of sites. Anyway, thanks for responding guys. Jack

The most important entity that will "read" your blog is Google.
Search engines love blogs . . . period. It isn't as much about impressing your users these days as it is impressing Google. Ultimately, you will gain more visitors "through" the eyes of Google, so think in those terms. . . sometimes that isn't as obvious, but in terms of generating great unique content for yourself, blogging is a very very powerful way to go . . .

Well said...
yeah 98% of blogs arnt read... but Google loves them and the more pages indexed on a topic the more relivant you become the higher ranking becomes on what your targeting.. and the list goes on... you go with a blog to get people to your site.. a brochure is something you have to ask people to go see or look at.. you have to work hard to get people to see it.. a blog (that is setup correctly) is more like a TV station.. as soon as someone turns on the set and starts flipping they will find it.. blogs get ranked well
its ok.. balloon dogs don't bite

I set up my blog with party planning tips, checklist, etc for parents to view. It didn't take me long to see all the indexed pages from my blog to realize that it's worth learning.
You can pay someone at guru.com elance.com or Mike Clay to design an interface for your blog so that it looks less generic. |
