I also posted this in the For Sale/Wanted section, in case anyone has an actual Wellington stand for sale (seems unlikely, but you never know!).
So here's the thing....I've owned a Wellington MPS for quite some time now, and either suspend it from the rafters with nylon rope, using a simple pulley system (which is ideal), or use a stand when the venue doesn't allow for hanging/suspension. The stand that I came across, is actually designed to hold a large birdcage, and was ridiculously cheap (certainly by comparison to the marketed Wellington stand). While the stand I have does the trick, but it doesn't fold down small enough to transport, and that has become an issue. So, I'm looking for alternative suggestions for a stand. Above all, it needs to pack down to fit in a case. I see that Malloy's kit comes with a stand that is described as a "hanging stand for chest and board," which appears to be a piece of modified drum hardware. Any owners of the Malloy system who can comment on the stand? Appreciate any help and advice. Cheers, e |

The stand is just what you described. It packs down to 3 feet in length (not exact but close enough). I don't use it as I always try to hang it somehow.

Yeah the stand is for a birdcage, or maybe a lantern. I use it because it packs inside the ATA case neatly. Its a bit too decorative-especially the base-in comparison with the chest (I have the silver one) but has worked just fine.
I have done several designs for a new stand, but havent had one built yet. If you're interested, I am happy to share my designs.

Yes, the Malloy one. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that!

I could be wrong, however I believe the stand mvmagic is referring to is an older style, as I once owned the same stand. The one currently pictured on the Malloy site is different and less decorative, however appears to be much sturdier than the original.

My friend Ray Lum has the nice stand from Wellington.. He sent me a photo of it and it looks great.. It has nice caster stand and looks to break down and all.
I'm not sure what they charge for it and not sure I could share the photo with you all with out talking to him first.. Anyhow it seems as if you are going to do this illusion a lot that you would want the stand for atleast a back up plan. If you have a house gig, then you wouldn't need it. Thank you. Wellington does some really nice work on the table stand and this stand..Not to mention the illusion. I hope this helps.. 'Does anyone know what they charge for this stand>? Taylor

The Wellington stand is very nice and aesthetically matches my 2 Wellington tables (one from the 'kit' the other 'off the shelf'). But it is expensive (I have a call into get the exact price)
In case anyone is interested in a really inexpensive solution, this is what I use when performing locally (and can't suspend the chest) http://www.windycityparrot.com/Merchant2......tand.jpg I picked one up (in black) on Ebay for something like $20! But it doesn't break down small enough to travel. |

Hi Eric
I believe Malloy is now using a cymbal stand to support the box. I checked one out at a music store and it costs about $45. hope that's what you were talking about. John |

Yes, I checked in with Malloy today, and that's exactly right. They used to include the same stand that they included with several of their effects (I have one that came with "Perfect Choice"). The stands are was black, with an ornate cast iron base. It does the job, but isn't nearly as practical as a boom cymbal stand. I'm heading to a local music store tomorrow, MPS chest in hand, to test a few stands out.

Let me suggest the Ultra light stand with extension arm or t bar with small counterweight if needed.

Yes - tis the name of the manufacturer - can find their stuff at full retail on ProSound & light sights. They make speaker and light stands that collapse and have varying heights. Many DJ suppliers have them too along with cheaper competitor's products in their lightng sections....

OK, here's a question...
I haven't yet invested in Wellington's stand, as I'm in England and by the time I get a stand bought, shipped and paid all the relevant import charges on it, it becomes ridiculously expensive just for a stand. I suspend the box using steel cable and a carabiner where possible. However, even if I set the box an hour before the show, when it's lowered, it spins. I assume this is because it only has one attachment point (i.e. the top ring you use to open the box) and is therefore spinning on its axis. I steady it with my hand when it reaches its in-point, but would prefer not to have to do that. (It still spins afterwards). Short of modifying the box and adding pick-points on both sides of it, does anyone who flies the box have any advice on how to keep it from spinning? It doesn't really affect much if the audience sees the box from both sides. It just annoys me. |

I made a stand for my OLEC -
My set up is basically 3 parts that screw together. Part on is the base. Basically it is a base - purchased from a restaurant supply store - for the bottom of a bar table. It looks like the bottom part of this table: http://www.atlantafixture.com/ItemDetail......dce1&S=1 - in fact, this is probably exactly the type I have. The part between the bottom and the table is removable. I then welded casters to this. I then welded a conduit connector to this part. Part 2 is a straight piece of conduit. This attaches to the base part, and has another conduit connector on the top. The top part, where the birdcage would go - or your prediction box - I used conduit again. I bent it into a "question mark" shape. The question mark part attaches to the straight part with a conduit connector. I attached a hook to the top, and this is where I hang my cage from. The whole thing breaks down to 3 pieces, and is connected with 2 thumb screws. The prop is at a theater, and I won't be there again until Friday night. I can get you a photo if you are interested. It was an easy project, just took a little getting used to bending the conduit - but I did get it on my first shot! Scott |
