Hey everyone,
I need your opinion. I mostly do children's birthday parties; although more and more I am doing larger events. I have convinced myself I need a sound system during all of my shows, whether it is in a living room or a school auditorium. In addition to adding music to the show, I want something to enhance my voice so I can keep a little better attention from the kids. I was looking around and found the Florida Magic PAS-787. From everything I've read it sounds like it would fit my needs perfectly. However, I'd like to hear the opinions from those that have actually used it. OR, if you have another system that you think works great; please let me know. Keep in mind I like the sound of the PAS-787 because it is only $399. I'm not really wanting to spend thousands of dollars just yet. Here's the link - http://floridamagic.bizhosting.com/ All opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I guess that means I can't chime in an state for the record that it is the WORST system for the money, I've ever run across.

You don't need to spend thousands on a good small wireless PA system, but you probably do need to spend about twice the $399 you were looking at.
And once you have a PA system, you will wonder how you ever worked without one. It does give you more control over the audience, and also lets you put more energy into performing and less into simply being heard. It's a good investment, in my experience. Check out the "sticky" topic on PA systems in this F/X section, there's plenty of great information there to help you make an informed choice. SETH

I have the previous system, the PAS-767. I don't know what Frank is talking about. I don't often use a PA system but when I do this one is terrific. For the venues I do, (school gyms, rooms that accommodate 100 people or so it is great. No it's not a state of the art high powered system for large venues but for me it does the job.

I praised it when I first go it many years ago. It worked for birthday parties, with lots of feedback. It's speaker design is horrible. The system with the extras is way to high for what is out there. On the low end, the Roland Cube is 10 times better in sound and music generation, however it didn't come with DC or a wireless.
For the same money and no need for DC the Mackie 150 is small and powerful. Use the extra money you saved for a decent wireless. The sticky post in the FX says a lot. The main issues are:

I still have and use a PAS 767. Its been faithful to me for the last 5 or so years. I only use it in small venues now -- daycares, birthdays, etc. It does a fine job there. I have used it in larger banquet rooms, and it will work. Certainly it is not my first choice.
The new one from Florida Magic is, I believe, not manufactured by the makers of the PAS-767. That was a Tiwan based manufacturer. As far as I know, this new one is not the same design at all. However, for the money, I would go with a different system. The price has always seemed way to high for this item.

I'm you're having success with the PAS 767.I had no luck at all.
Finally I had to get another unit (Happie Amp). This one is great--never fails, always ready to go. I had quite a few different P/A systems in the past, but this one is a beauty. TrickyRicky |
