Here it comes, The School Of Busking! I will be there his year still as a student with tons more to learn! I have gone from magician to magical performer as a direct affect from attending the 2009 school.
Back then I literally went to Cardiff with the payment for the school and £20 to spare (mr Lean even Got me dinner one night, I owe you a fish and chips this school mate!) my idea last year was if I go on this course then I will atleast busk my costs back if I don't do anything else with what I learn. that next weekend I made some money and 2 weeks later I made my money back and some. It turned out to be more of an investment and saved me from The dreded 'regular job'. I've been lucky to make some good friends from it and have some advice even after the school! All I can say is what my experiance was and what I got from it, well I made some money, got more bookings, became a better performer, I will now find and hours set on a stage with a dodle even if I got heckled and I had one the best summers meeting people I would never have met if it wasn't for the School. So if you want to make a living or just have a fun experiance and busk back your costs for attending then go for it you have nothing to lose, but could have some something to miss out on if you don't. Mario is now a good friend and I can say he truly works for his pennys, and can't help but put all his efforts in to what he does! Cheers mate! Ps that tenners in the post... Everything and everyone makes a direct difference in your life, the only control you have over what happens In life are the decisions you make. So even if you mess up you'll still be affected by the event. In short if you break your leg tomorrow you will be in hospital and could meet a nurse who you end up marrying. Life is funny. |

Hi Tim
Ths School is all about the students, their shows, their marteial. The DVD will only serve as an introduction to street thearter. What is covered during the cause is the nitty gritty, I am sorry to say the DVD is not a subsertute for the School. During the Cause we look at your work and what you want to portray. We aim to help you put meat on to bones if needed. A large proportion of the cause is in workshop and pratacal out their doing it. The cause is running in may instead of june because because last year it was to close to season a number of students thought. Better to get ready out side of season, leaving the whole summer to go out their and do it I agree with them and moved the dates. Mario |

Mario,
I've said before, but I think that it has to be underlined. IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL MAGICAL PERFORMANCE - GET YOURSELF OVER TO THE SCHOOL OF BUSKING. I attended the school last year, my main interest being how to stop, keep, and hold a crowd. And then extract cash from that crowd. The school had all of that - that was the main focus - and the stuff I learned was invaluable. But here's the bonus - I met James James at a John Carney lecture (in a tiny Scout Hall in the middle of nowhere..!) early last year, and mentioned I was thinking seriously about getting a street show together. "You should", he said - "It will improve your presentation and performance in other areas of your work". That nailed it for me. And it turned out to be the case. After the course, I set about altering the way I think about my stuff - using a LOT of the techniques I learned from yourself and Gazzo. I was too busy last year to actually put a show together and get out there, but I set aside the winter months to work in my show- and this week I started the first of 16 school shows, due to run throughout March. I'm basically doing my street act, with a few additions. Yesterday, I achieved what I thought would take me years.. 45 minutes - 3 tricks - they were extremely appreciative - and I was over the moon, John...Now.. for a school show - that's pretty rare, I think. The 10 to teens are the most difficult audience I've ever worked to, but they all had a great time. And told me so, afterwards. And no money changed hands whatsoever!! I measure the success of my shows by the amount of tricks I DON'T do. I could NEVER have achieved that in such a short space of time without the knowledge I learned on the course last year. Spectator involvement, learning to use the audience as a tool is a BRILLIANT wheeze on all levels, and an ESSENTIAL part of any successful street act. I'd never get away with 3 tricks in 45 minutes on the street - I'll be happy with 20 minutes right now- but I'm a WHOLE LOT closer now than I was before I took the course in Cardiff last year. I've still to get out there on the street - but that's in hand - and, as you know, I'll be attending the school again this year. If I learn a tenth of what I picked up last year - it'll be worth it. And it's an excuse to visit Cambridge, a great city on all fronts. So. My message is the same message that James James gave me (then he moved to Australia!- what does THAT tell you? !! ) IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL PERFORMANCE whether it be close-up, stage, or street - ooops! nearly forgot - the MIRROR!.. GET YOURSELF OVER TO THE SCHOOL OF BUSKING in Cambridge. You'll meet like-minded people just like yourself... un-hinged, un-balanced - but all sharing a common interest - learning from guys who actually WALK the WALK - and live what they teach. You'll have a GREAT time. Regards, DCB

Del Boy, I am well pleased you have working on your show.
I am looking forward to seeing you this year. The key now is to keep on keeping on the more shows time you put in the more you will get out of this years School. So get out their and do it is the key. Last year I gave an introduction to the 3 woven cords, Busking, grind shows and pitching. This year I am going into it in more depth. Steve will be unpacking his approach to busking. Steve is an outstanding performer and I am looking forward to learning from him as well. Mario PS this year their are 12 places at the School, their are only 3 places left. |

Wow----there's been more than 1,300 views of this thread and it's down to just three places available.
As a fellow returning student (looking forward to seeing you again DCB), I can only ask-----what are you waiting for? It worked out great with 20 students last year-----and will be even better with just 12 this time around. Hope to see ya there. Doug |
