Today I was walking by the house of someone I know to be a stage illusionist, he gets gigs around town though I have never seen him perform.
On the street outside were the remains of some sort of cabinet, what exactly I can't say. It was in pieces and incomplete, but definitely an old worn out illusion. There was a couple of trapdoors and a hidden compartment. No one else would of had a clue what it was and I couldn't really tell except that if it was outside his house it was probably an old illusion. Oh I so wanted to grab it all, for what I have no idea! |

I don't have space for it at all But yes I might go have another look tomorrow!
But I don't want to look like a stalker. I just know he lives there as we have a mutual friend and it's quite a distinctive place. |

Knock on his door and have a chat, no harm. Not to mention he would probably be a really interesting guy to speak with...Or...if you'd rather not get to know him...swing by around 3-4AM, you'll likely look like a typical dumpster diver rather than a Stalker.

If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

I don't see anything wrong with just taking it, especially if he is junking it and it's put there to be picked up as garbage. A lot of people take chairs, furniture, etc. from other peoples garbage and keep it. My friend took a broken lawnmower out of our garbage when I was a kid and made a mini-dirt bike out of it. If that was me I would think it's kind of cool that a fellow magician lives in the same area and even strike up a conversation with him if I saw him. I also wouldn't hesitate to say to him that if he ever wanted to get rid of anything in the future to let me take a look at it before he does, if it's ok with him. Who knows, he may have a bunch of stuff he wants to get rid of that would interest you.

Oh I would of grabbed it but it was really just rubbish. Bits and pieces and incomplete. But definitely the remains of something Also I have no room at all at the moment.
I know who he is because we have a mutual friend, I am angling at her to have one of her dinner parties and invite us both hehehe |

Please don't just take things that you think are junk from peoples yards!
This is called stealing. For all you know he hauled it home to repair it and it is being stored outside. He may not have the room for it in his house either If you really want it, go ask. Simple. Just knock on the door and say, "I noticed this stuff in your yard are you getting rid of it?" Simple, honest, direct. Metatron |

Well, that may be good advice in some circles.
For me, I live in the country, where people try to use things until there is no use. Often, I set things out that I no longer want, but that are not really trash, that still may have some use. Since pickup is on Thursday, I set things out on Monday or so. That way, if anyone thinks they can use any of the stuff, good for them. Most times, most of it is gone before pickup day. So for me, it is not stealing, it is giving something a new use, a new home. Simple. Honest. Direct... p.s. It was not "from peoples yards", it was "on the street outside"... big difference...

Tiggod, I believe, is trying to say that this guy put it out for garbage. He would have said it was in his yard if that's where it was. This was "on the street", and that means it's being put out as garbage.

The first three words of my second paragraph in the first post "On the street", I would never rummage through something in somebody's yard.
It was definitely being thrown away. To be honest I might of grabbed it if it seemed more complete and not so broken down. But really it was just pieces of something that probably used to be a full sized cabinet (could fit a person inside). Old and dirty, it might of been in the back yard for a while. People here tend to leave unwanted but usable items on the street often as well, quite often with a little sign letting you know that it's for free. But this was sitting waiting for the garbage collection, without a doubt. |

I agree that you should knock on his/her door and ask. If he/she is throwing it away, then they won't mind you taking it off their hands. Don't just stalk it, ask. If it is just rubbish, you can also ask that as well. You will get a lot more information from the previous owner than you will from asking us on magic Café. And yes, sometimes one man's trash is another man's treasure.

As I keep saying, I don't have room for it and it was pretty much just left over incomplete bits of something..
Maybe the title of this thread is misleading. It should say "I wanted to want it but it was worthless to me and I have no room for it" |
