Hi everyone, I'm planning to buy one book, but I'm not sure if I should buy Approaching Magic by Regal or Collected Almanac by Kaufman? Which one do you prefer?

Both are great.
If you are mainly interested in material for formal performance: routines for a stand-up show or formal close-up act - I'd say Approaching Magic. If you are mainly looking for close-up effects for restaurants/strolling gigs/social situations - I'd say Collected Almanac. |

Hi, I'm still not sure which book I should pick. I normally do close-up magic.
Also, I'd like to know the sizes of the book. Are they big? because I'd like to carry them. |

I to love both these books, but I would pick The Collected Almanac because you get a variety of material from many different people. And the material is excellent.

Both are very large and heavy. Both are worth the investment. Regal's book has so much to offer from stand up to mentalism. Plus a ton of great close up magic. Almanac is filled with all kinds of cool magic. 2 great books to choose from. You win either way.

Since both books are good, which book should I start reading first?

This is very subjective. Both books are well written and both books are filled with wonderful effects. I agree with what has been previously stated. You would go wrong with the purchase of either book.

Get the Almanac first.

Thanks Mayniac for correctly interpreting my inexcusable typo. Both books are outstanding. I do confess a sleight preference for Approaching Magic but that is based on my personal style/approach. Almanac is a classic and deserves high praise.

Also check out Pauls DVD "The Side Steal" for the last word on learning that sleight. It contains performances of a couple of the effects from FASDIU.

Since Jeff chimed in.....
His ebook "The King has Left the building...with Amnesia" is an awesome, awesome book with strong real world magic. With that book and Doug Conn's book, you can make a living. DO |
