Love to know your thoughts guys.
I know some of you have objected to my style of magic / spirituality before (and I fully respect your opinions). But at last I have been given the tiniest clip (from an agent who booked me for a school event) and can now let you see a little of the kind of stuff I do and say. Its all about enabling the audience to experience their own God-given beauty... In a world that demands more and more perfection my hope is to show people their own value whomever they are and whatever they have (or have not) been able to achieve. Excuse the 'waffly' way I perform... I just try to be 'ME' totally. After all my message is 'be who you are for who you are is who God made you to be'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npfFmk5X9e4 |

Hard to give full comments on this as the video only has certain clips so we can't see what was some of the set up or context...
I liked the "casual" approach, you were comfortable up there and engaging(maybe it is the accent LOL). Hard to comment on the tree mindreading as I don't know the context of how you presented it, but I personally believe you can present mind reading type effects and teach real truths from it, but that is explored in another thread here... I think the topic of perfectionism or being in a state of perfection is a topic worth discussing on a spiritual level, and in a certain way, as God's creation/children we are "perfect" although I prefer to say "all we need to be, at this moment to connect and grow in a relationship with Him having the image of God in us". I think a difference I see in how I would present it, is that we are not perfect, and although man in the view of creation, is an amazing creature, with much potential value, we are flawed, scarred, by sin, and we do need something(One) beyond ourselves to address that. WITH Christ we are all we need to be to achieve all He has designed for us, but apart from that dependence on God, who is the only perfect one, we can't do it on our own. Just hearing the clip on the video one could ASSUME(as there is no context or fuller message to see how you set this up) a message of humanism and self actualization is more at play than seeking a relationship with God, who will work in and thru you to make you perfect(complete). The Agent of completeness is not in ourselves, but thru a relationship with God, made internal thru the work of Christ on the cross for mankind. within that relationship, there is a glory and value of man that is unlocked, unleashed to impact the world for God, and it is then something that is eternal, but mans efforts alone are temporal... it is finding that balance and presenting that big picture, imo. and it is hard to present that in a short clip. Appreciate you showing it, and enjoyed thinking thru it. Onward and upward |

Alistair Begg addressed a similar topic today 2-11-2010 in a message entitled "The Power of Negative Thinking Part A" based on the life of Nehemiah. See http://www.truthforlife.org then click on the above free message. At the 19 minute mark, Begg talks about the figure skater who was interviewed after winning- and did not look too good on camera trying to stretch her slim arm all the way around over her neck to pat herself lovingly on the back (just kidding).
I thought I'd mention that I think your use of www.youtube is a great idea- I hope more FCMers figure out how to place some of their clips there. I personally have no idea how to do that- I have a retired computer gent looking into getting some more NTM! clips on youtube for us (he has put on a few on there already)- but I have no idea if there is a time limit for clips there, how to import files from computer over the site, or what else he had to do to get it done. But it is a great resource including placing into the youtube index any trick name before purchasing the and to review it first on video. So I appreciate your taking the time to post it there for all of us to view. |

I wouldn't mind seeing an unedited presentation. From the clip I don't see or hear, 'be who you are for who you are is who God made you to be'.
What I do hear is, "Every single one of us is perfect, as we are."
"If you're going to walk in the rain, don't complain about getting wet!"

Well, I really like your relaxed and genuine performing style. If it's for kids, there may be a bit too much of magic theory in there. I really agree that it's a useful message to try to offset that we need to be perfect by the standards of materialistic society, but you need to qualify that we're perfect as we are, since that's actually counter-factual, as we say where I work. Will they let you talk about God in these setting? Could you actually mention that God created us in his image and that we're valuable because he loves us? Or something along those lines?

Hi Mark:
I enjoyed your performance - your personality on stage is very likeable and the audience seemed to be with you. When you say, "Everyone of us is perfect, as we are," are you referring to all people? Best Regards, Ron |

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all your comments. Really appreciated. I'm trying to get hold of a longer piece, so you can see the context. Then, once I've uploaded that, I'll have a go at answering you're questions - as some may well be answered when you see the longer clip. The kids were high school mid teens and were a very bright lot for sure. See you all in a bit. Mark |

I enjoyed the performance, but I'm still unable to see or hear the Gospel message, or understand what it has to do in relations to Gospel mentalism.
Were the students Christians? Or were you performing for non-Christian students? Putting all that aside, I do like your performance style. You are gentle in both mannerism and speech.

Here's another one... this time an interview (and, be warned, I am at my most 'liberal' here). Howwever, you'll see how I use mentalism to create some sort of experience of wonder. it does need 'fast-forwarding' a few minutes.
