What are some effects using sponge ball(s) and playing cards? Mark Mason's "soft spot" is one. Any others?

As far as marketed effects, there is a nice routine put out by Magic by Gosh called Pips a' Poppin'. It's available from most dealers.

I believe the late Bob McAlister of "Wonderama" and "Kids are People Too" fame had a chink a chink effect he did with small sponge balls and cards. It was in one of the magic magazines but I can't think which one it was. Possibly someone out in the Café will remember.
It was notable for the way he would flip and revolve the cards which added to the effect his hands were unmistakenly empty as the sponges moved from card to card.

Do yourself a favour and don't buy Soft Spot. I have it and it's a really bad Sponge Ball and Card combintion routine. Plus the quality of the card can break easily.

Apocalypse Vol. 1 has a couple interesting effects that have to do with sponge balls and cards.
Monte, as in the 3 cards.

I have seen small sponges being used as coin matrix. But I don't know where to find it.

I have a very cool effect and routine using a deck of cards and a sponge ball. As far as I know, it is original. I made a small manuscipt of it for my personal use and probably wouldn't release it alone. I'm going to wait until I have a few more tricks, then put them together into my little booklet.

bunkyhenry,
If you haven't located it by now, Tarbell's Lesson 91, Page 365, Bob McAllister's Cavorting Sponge Balls, is a neat matrix effect with cards and sponge balls. I've practiced it but not enough to have performed it yet. I think you would like it. Dwight Powell |

The one in the Magic Menu is on page 35 and is Chris Hulbert's "Spot the Dot".
