Just happened to see this on the Stevens magic website, and thought more than a few folks here might be interested:
This Paul Osborne book describes and explains many sideshow illusions, such as the Blade Box and Girl to Gorilla. Click HERE for more information. At $40 it seems a bit pricey, but just think of the tips you could pull with a Headless Woman sitting behind the pitch table! SETH

Hey Seth,
They are called GRIND SHOWS and you don't need a pitch with tham to make money. The only pitchman that I know of that did that was Jimmy Dixon.Watch the vid,he used a blade box.The mark got to see the girl in the blade box and get a mouse for $1.00.Do you know how many marks you need a day to make any money at $1.00 each. But Jimmy did well with it.I see this time he was dinging the tip twice but he didn't do that when I was with him. When you look at the vid look at his face.He looks like hes pi**ed off at the world.I would tell him all the time "Jimmy Smile once in awhile" but it fell on deaf ears. Now that I think about it he did make lots of money perhaps we should look like an old grouch's on the joint....it might up the gross...lol. Thanks, Don, for the backstory here.
I've seen a few YouTube videos of the G-to-G illusion. Very cute, and the gorilla "breaking out" of its cage at the end is a good way to clear the crowd real fast for the next show! If I remember correctly, this is just a simple application of the old "Pepper's Ghost" principle; the same gimmick is also used in one of the stunts (the dancing ghosts) for the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Seth,
You are right on it is called Pepper Ghost.Funny you would bring this up because Jimmy Dixon had one in Circus-Circus in Las Vegas. It was in the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever. I also worked on an Auto Thrill Show back in the 70's with Buzz Bundy. Buzz is also in that same movie doing the two wheel stunt with a mustang getting away from the police. He drives in an undergeound parking garage in downtown Vegas.Of course that underground parking garage was never there. Buzz was the only man to be able to drive a car on two wheels driver's side up.They just shot him going into a covered walkway (that was a movie set in Hollywood) drivers side up.Months later they filmed the car coming out of that walkway in Vegas.Well Buzz was on the show so they hired another stunt guy but he couldn't drive drivers side up.He came out drivers side down.If you watch that movie again look for it...quite funny. The car goes in drivers side up and comes out drivers side down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper's_ghost Later,Don |
