Hey guys,
I take it that the book has great coin material but what about card work? Are there any close-up or stand-up card magic routines in this book? Thanks! Roberto

I got my copy in the mailbox today.
The first thing I did was to plug in the included DVD in the DVD player. It contains pices of his hillarous standup show, a performance of "Three pices of silver", and an interview with Rune made by Josh. I will read the book this weekend and hopefully make an review next week if I get the time.

Maybe the volcano ash incident in Europe, two of my mail orders from UK are still not arrive.
Peo, thanks for the 'sneak peek' of the content of the DVD, I always want to witness 'Three pieces of Silver' on DVD. Try to fetch the high price out of print VHS a few years ago but no luck. Hope mine will arrive soon.

This book is very, very good!
It looks good, it reads well, the illustrations are crisp and clear, and the material is solid and commercial. And there are several gags that can add a kind of strange humor to your act. I love the fact that it's such a well-produced book. I always enjoyed the "old style" type of book that Kaufman & Greenberg put out, and Rune's World takes me back to those glory days. It's a big book with a lot of effects - not the typical five or six you see so frequently nowadays. A bow to the modern age has them including the DVD which really helps you to get a feel for Rune's unique style. It's a great addition and will probably spoil me on future "DVDless" books. Rune is hilarious, although not all of his stuff is for everybody. One bit of business made me laugh out loud and yet when I tried it on stage (no less than three times) I just couldn't carry it off. Know your strengths, I guess. Another bit, though, killed an audience the other night. And there's a very funny gag I'm itching to try but I'm not sure I have the balls to do it. Overall, I figure there's something for everyone. If this is an example of the kind of books we can expect from Vanishing Inc. I'll be very pleased. |

This book is fabulous. I can't imagine anyone reading this great, varied work and not coming away with some solid ideas to incorporate. It has moves, great gags, solid routines, and lots of analysis of the thinking behind them all. The book's varied format works very well - both the more traditional first half, written and illustrated in relatively straight-forward Kaufmanesque style (with Rune's humor sprinkled throughout), and the hilarious comic book second half, which captures the essence of what surely would be a terrific live show. You come away from it feeling like you got a pretty good peak into the innocently twisted mind of a dedicated and creative professional.
I'm waiting to watch the DVD until after reading through the book a couple of times, but am very much looking forward to it. For some, it might be better to watch the DVD first to enjoy the live show before digging into the book.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

Got the book yesterday finally.
First part of the book is close up materials, over 90% coin stuff by not reading too deep materials inside. Advanced coin technique require, not for guy like me as an idiot in coin magic, still worth to read for ideas. Second part of the book about parlor and some stage illusions. Comic style works great for me. Josh wrote that the comedy part may not work in other countries, but it works well for me. For maximum result to learn materials from the book, I strongly recommend to get Three Pieces of Silver DVD / Tape (whatever format you can get, you know what I mean) + Rune's world embedded performance DVD + Talk about Tricks DVD (L&L) 9 out of 10, highly recommended to serious student of magic.

Thanks for all the kind words. I appreciate it more than you know, and I spoke with Rune and he's elated with the final product and the reception it is starting to get.
I agree wholeheartedly with what has been echoed here and elsewhere that the book should be used in tandem with seeing clips of Rune perform. The printed word cannot convey how this material plays or how exactly it is delivered, but a quick youtube search of Rune's magic should fill you in. What's nice is that people are saying that AFTER viewing the routines the book takes on new meaning, and they can appreciate details I describe with a renewed appreciation. The only problem with viewing on youtube is the language barrier. That's why the DVD that comes with the book has been translated, so you can follow along. Believe it or not, THAT translation was one of the big hold-ups for the release...it was very hard to produce the free DVD in a way that made us all proud. Many thanks for your continued support and kind words. I hope you'll continue to discuss the book here! Josh |

I've finished reading the book now. I'm not a coin guy but really loved the coin stuff! I've started to learn a couple of the routines.
The stand-up section really makes it for me though. It could have been a book all by itself, it's that good. Insanely funny magic presented in an original and novel way. Vanishing Inc can do no wrong. These guys are amazing! |
