Even with a p.a. you still need to project and speak clearly. In a lot of ways I would rather work without one, but if musicians are around I am glad I have it.

Yeah, I'm gonna stick with Rockville and Old Town for now.
This summer, as I travel across country, I may try other cities as I travel through them.

If anyone has recent info on this I could REALLY use some insight. Our whole troupe is looking to busk this year....So info on group permits and costs or at least where to get them would be brilliant!

I had picked a spot on the sidewalk on Ellsworth Drive, on the opposite side of the street across from a plaza named "Silver Plaza." I assumed the plaza was private, but not the sidewalk area where I was, which was on the opposite side of the street. I had built up a nice crowd, was in the middle of my set, when a security guard walked up to me, informed me I was on private property, and had to stop. Which I did. What was surprising to me is that before the redevelopment, the bit of sidewalk I was on had been a public sidewalk on a public street. But as part of the redevelopment deal, the City of Silver Spring had given jurisdiction of the whole street and adjoining sidewalks to the private developer and management company that managed the surrounding buildings. The City had basicially given away a street. |

I see buskers in Ocean City. They seem to do well.

I was performing in ocean city in the summers since I was a teenager (14), and started full time in 06-07... It used to be good, and buskers used to do very well. Today, it is not legal to perform on most spots (the only good spots), so most the buskers you see are taking chances.. (and yes, some have been arrested and even ticketed and fined up to $500)... So while they may seem to do good, if you talk to any of them they will tell you the same. That pitch is done.

Well that sucks. Why wouldn't they want talented performers on the boardwalk?
