Love it ! So subtle, the way you allowed the music box to play a role in each segment. So typical of your genius.

Very nice work Christian!
The elaborate set and costumes threw me for a moment, wait that was another video... Playwright Thornton Wilder said: "all you need for theatre is a platform and a passion." and you had those in spades. Keep up the good work of putting a good face on modern magic! Walt |

I especially enjoyed the Color Monte segment, and I think the unifying use of the music box is brilliant. As always, I am thoroughly impressed with your demeanor.

That was great. It's a rare treat to see bizarre magic on film and even rarer to see it done well. Well done Christian.

That was really satisfying, how nice to come home after a hard day and view some well done mystery work! Great book test and reworked presentation of "See No Evil" (?)- equivoke. The adapted Color Monte with the tarot cards is just brilliant. Is this your own routine Christian or did someone market this variation for mentalism in print somewhere? It is also nice to watch Classic's like K-R-RT which is also a part of my repertoire . All of the nuances and 'second checking'- just wonderful. The imagery of the fortune teller brought me back to some carnival where I put my quarter in and got a fortune. Adding the blindfold to the volunteer was good theatre and it made for a very nice image.
I always love the audience participation routines and enjoyed the way it was shot and the psychology behind it. It also really used the medium of television to it's advantage where it is very difficult these days to present magic effectively. One effect, so many ways to do it! I was however waiting for some variation on the musing box or how the music box tied into the whole routine rather than its ability to hypnotize us and create the 'magic moments' with it's spellbinding melody. I kept thinking. "What does the box do besides just hold the props"? That is maybe because of it's dominant size. Wrapping up the program where we started by getting the viewing audience involved in the Free Choice that brought everything full circle and felt, well… satisfying. I can appreciate the 'Look' of the show and the thought and planning time that was put behind it. It was very clean looking. I have worked with community television for many years and I know how long it really takes to put something inside the television so to speak and make it look polished and not some cable access nightmare . There is probably more time spent lighting and setting up camera angles and getting good sound than the actual 'live to tape' sequence. If that was all done quickly and in one take or so I really commend you. You are working with some great people. I too know the craziness of running a television studio by myself or not having a full crew or even a camera man to work with. It is fraught with multiple complications and great chances for errors that are even difficult to remove in post production. This had all the elements of good TV. Your Character personality is very likable while still keeping on the edge of insanity with some of your mannerisms and verbal ticks. Seeing your production shows me that it is still possible to present mysteries that work in this day and age and it still can come across the medium of television successfully and appear amazing and not complicated. I really had my doubts about the future of magic after watching the 2009 World Magic Awards and the majority was the same old box-jumping crap (sorry) that has been going on since before the 70's or the recent development of clever camera work and editing in recent magic specials. I have a very hard time watching any magic on TV anymore and more often than not, turn it off or change the channel, tired of watching the same old boring stuff done in the same old boring way. It's possible that I am also jaded by being involved in the art on and off since I was a kid. When I feel bored or cannot invoke the wonder in myself, I know it is time to take a break because I know my audiences will intuit that. As Magic is no longer a full time job for me anymore but part time fun- I can pick and choose if I will take a performance date or not. A luxury a working professional does not usually have. The taming and capturing interest of the 21st century ADHD mind is probably our biggest obstacle and hardest challenge. All of this is kept in mind as I resurrect my Seance work by adding new stories to old routines and in the careful choice of new effects. I for one do not have the patience anymore to perform in non-formal conditions with the constant flow of casual interruptions at crucial moments and being asked to "do it again because I missed it". It gives me respect for the strolling magicians today and the intense challenges they continue to face in a world that sometimes feels like it's moving just a little to fast for it's own good. It also seems like it is almost impossible to go to a live show these days without a phone ringing or watch beeping or some sort of interruption from the outside world and breaking that invisible wall where we are willing to suspend our disbelief. This happens even when kind words are asked to shut off these devices. Rushing through each experience without enjoying the ride will only bring us all to the same place in the end. It really is being in the moment that counts not necessarily the destination or the next goal as there will always be another destination and goal to reach for. While doing this I have learned so much about eliminating non-moments and Christian's presentation has done a great job at that. It was a real pleasure to watch good magic. Thank You so much for sharing with all of us and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future. Again, just to state the obvious, I am practicing *TIMO < *This Is My Opinion. I state this as as one that came from the old USENET days where I tired of pointless arguments and flaming by those who choose to be cruel behind the safety of their screen names and keyboards. WOW AND WOW AGAIN! Thank you for all of that K!
Well, I do hope to make more but in a different format.....more info on that soon. As to the production well...actually we only had 20 minutes to set up, we did have an hour to shoot and I did have a few boo boo's at the start especially since we had no rehearsal time only the set up time. All of those pieces (except for the Monte) were variations of routines I do in my current show "Now and at the Hour" or my previous show "The Pandora Experiment". The music box is from Pandora as well and yes...that's all she's ever been meant to do: put people in an altered state. People see and can intuit things when the box plays. That is how I give them the power. Although I've never explicitly explained that in Pandora nor in this show. But I do like the idea of having items that carry and execute magic but don't do effects. Although I can see what you mean in this context. As for the Color Monte, the script is mine, although to give credit where it's due, I had always wanted to do a Tarot Monte of some sort but nothing ever struck me. Then I came across R. Paul Wilson's Tarot Monte which is both on DVD and in marketed package effect form. He has a lovely ending with the Death Card but he changed the moves to something he felt was better and I'm sure more suited to him. I really appreciated what he had done but it wasn't for me. So, I decided to take my own stab at doing a Tarot Monte. I went back to the Color Monte moves because to my mind, "Well...it worked the first time ya know what I'm sayin'?" Wrote my own story but much of the outline for the story is from the Emerson/West Color Monte. And, I decided to make the end a wee bit...darker >:) I never expected it to be such a hit! Well, thank you everyone again! Hey has anybody received their issue of MAGIC. I haven't even read the article yet. So, it will be a surprise to me too when I eventually get it.
